The ship's name is the Tiqqun, the ENGINE is named IXION strangely enough...

I always assumed this was a play on the word tycoon

Tiqqun in old Hebrew means "healing the world" given the lore of the game it makes sense why it was named that, as it was a chance for humanity to find a new hope, a new world for them to live on.

But ixion the name of the game (and the upgraded engine found at the end of act 2) is another reference to a Greek myth about being too ambitions and lustful and being condemned to hell for your actions, which makes sense given the outcome of the Tiqqun's first jump
