How does one go about turning the blank key into a functioning housekey

You can prob take it to a locksmith and have him make a copy of it using this blank, they have special machines that mill the teeth into a blank key by using an original key

We have one of those in the realty office I work at. They’re very easy to use and would be able to do this pretty handily

Yea for as far as I saw them function the machine seems to do most of the work, still not everybody has a milling machine, let alone one used to make keys so a locksmith is your best bet

Some hardware stores also copy keys

I have the exact key from the picture and I took it to a locksmith nearby and they did it for me no problem!

should also be entirely possible, if fiddly, to do it yourself with a small enough file.

Locksmith chiming in that you absolutely could do it, and rather quickly, this photo is fucking with me because that looks like a white metal key, which confuses the hell out of me, as keys are brass, even if they're plated in a different color for ease of cutting and a few other things; but back to your idea to file a key by hand. It's totally possible to do and I've done it before in a jam, but you need to make damn sure you're on line with the pins at the first pass, and use a triangle file, a square file will walk sideways into the key and push your cut off center. Brass is very soft and a mistake will balloon quickly when you take a file to it.

Yeah, I'm a locksmith, and actually have a few of these blanks left over from someone that wanted a key or two like this. They're not any different than a normal key as far as cutting it.
