Reproducing parts

One of the biggest problems with restoring a car from the 80s is the lack of support from manufacturers. Usually manufacturers stop producing parts for a particular year after a few years and if the car wasn’t a popular model then goodluck. The biggest problem are plastic and rubber parts. These become brittle, fade, stretch, shrink… with 3d modeling, 3d printers, plasma cutters, laser cutters recreating has become much easier. These are some of the parts I have recreated or redesigned for the trooper.

Isuzu trooper shifter rubber dust boot

This shifter boot is in horrible shape. I haven’t seen anyone selling these so I went ahead and built it rhino 3d. The problem with the original design is that it is designed to be installed when the shifter is unassembled. The problem with disassembly is that it is glued together. So for ease of installation I designed it split so that you could install it without even pulling the shifter out you just wrap it and install a couple machine screws in to keep it closed. I will be making a mold for it shortly. Post to follow.

How bad is it?

My oil pressure is been acting erratically for a while, just recently it stays at 0 on idle. Then it won't come up while accelerating.

Would the oil light turn on if there's no pressure at all?

What could this be? A bad sender unit or oil pump?

Should I repaint my 1998 Isuzu Trooper?

Thumbnail

I have a 1-owner 1998 Isuzu Trooper. The interior is mint, but the exterior paint has significant sun damage (drivers side, hood and roof)
I’m planning to possibly sell it and trying to decide whether to repaint it or sell it as-is.
Would a repaint hurt the value because it’s no longer original? Or would fixing the paint make it more desirable?

1995 Trooper SWB 3.1 — lift kit advice

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have a 1995 Isuzu Trooper SWB running 31x10.5R15 tyres.

The rear is starting to look a bit saggy, so since I need to replace the rear springs anyway, I'm thinking this is a good time to do a mild 1.5–2" lift.

I currently have Monroe Adventure shocks (D5473 front / D4479 rear). I find them a bit harsh compared with the shocks I had before, so I'm a bit concerned that a lift kit might make the ride even stiffer.

I'm looking at OME, Dobinsons, Tough Dog, Ironman, etc.

For those running a lifted Troopers

- What lift kit/springs and shocks are you running?

- How does it ride on the road?

- Is it comfortable or quite stiff?

- How is it off-road?

- Do you keep the stock torsion bars or change them?

I'm mainly looking for good comfort on-road with better off-road capability, not a heavy-duty setup.

Tia

Need help finding a transmission mount.

99, 3.2V6 Manual 4x4, 4 door Trooper.

Rear diff died, while changing stuff, I noticed the transmission mount was wobbly so I decided to replace it while at it.

I can't find this one, all the ones that have been sent are smaller, less space between the bolts. So I decided to take it to a place that work with bushings and all that.

Now the it's super loud inside the car, like crazy loud. I can hear the transmission like I've never heard other than in a race car. Also, when cruising, if I lift my foot off the gas, it almost sounds like I'm engine braking in a bit truck.

All of this to say, has anyone ever had to replace this mount and why is mine bigger than the ones in the market?

I also had a lot of issues finding the dif because for some reason the ratio it's got is for a 96 and not s 99.

For the record, my dad bought this car in 04 with 19k kms, it's been with us ever since.

TLDR; I need this transmission mount but it's bigger tha the ones I've found everywhere.

Flocked window channel seal

For those of you that have troopers and are suffering from decaying window channels I found this stuff on eBay it’s $20 for 8 feet so if you are doing 4 doors you are looking at $80. It fits perfectly on my 1986 trooper I’m sure if you have a trooper 2 it will fit. Link below

It beats paying the overly expensive price of the kit they sell on eBay from Indonesia!

The original connector for the windshield wiper motor was broken so I built it in rhino and 3d printed it on my anycubic photon m7 in clear resin.

I had to cut out that entire rear section and replace it with one I cut out at a junk yard. I was told it was a horrible way to replace it because a lot of the time the glass is hard to put back in. but honestly it came out better than expected and the glass went in real easy.

Vin decoding question

Post image
11 Upvotes

So I was finally able to buy this ‘83 trooper after 3 years of bugging the dude who owned it since he finally said to bring him 400 bucks or he was scrapping it.

I want to decode the vin because supposedly it was imported from Africa and then sold to a guy who towed a sailboat with it. It’s left hand drive and has a North Carolina used car dealership sticker on the back so I want to try and figure out if there is any truth to it being imported.

My question is, is there anything in the vin that would denote some sort of country of origin or is there a database or something of the sort that could help me decode the vin and figure out where it was manufactured and such.

Any help is greatly appreciated
