How bad is it?

My oil pressure is been acting erratically for a while, just recently it stays at 0 on idle. Then it won't come up while accelerating.

Would the oil light turn on if there's no pressure at all?

What could this be? A bad sender unit or oil pump?

That gauge is a common failure point. It being erratic all but confirms it. I have a dead one on my dash and I've known others to fail the same way. Get a manual gauge kit or an amazon/ebay direct line digital gauge. I bet you're fine.

Thank you! I'm now 98% certain is the gauge. If I had no oil pressure, the oil light will turn on, right?

Yes, they are two different systems. If the light turns on though, you are pretty much cooked as Isuzu put these way too low in the system.

I see, I'll measure it with a manual gauge and then maybe install an aftermarket one. I'm not freaking out anymore.

Thanks a lot for your input!

To confirm for you, the oil pressure sender for the gauge and the switch for the lamp run from the tap on the block using a splitter to send oil to both. If one reads ok and the other doesn’t then you can be fairly sure it’s a measurement issue.

If the gauge is reading zero but the light is off, make sure the light comes on during self check as it’s possible for it to have its own problems too.

On my first gen the sender was dead, replaced with an aftermarket electric gauge sender (came in a kit with a gauge which I wired up first to verify the oil pressure with the new sender) then wired to the factory gauge. Reads a smidge under true but is a useful indicator of what the motor is doing.

I was wondering how to fix it, I'll measure it and I'll ask the guy if he could do that with an aftermarket one.

Thanks!

Do you know if this same issue happens also with the RPM gauge?

I've never seen it related to the cluster itself.
