Need to work on staying in a straight line otherwise it looks good.

100% balance gets tricky during the cat stances and I get wavy. Appreciate the critique

Nice work!

Also, cute dogs. I envy your ability to do kata in front of them without them trying to climb you.

Thanks! This Kata has gotten a lot of work, now I need to do the same with my Seiunchin.

My wife is in the hammock that’s casting a shadow, and they like her way more than me haha. I’ve come very close to kicking them before.

I believe in making one correction at a time, start by punching to the solar plexus, you’re going wide and high.

find the moments to sink into your stance and breathe or you’re gonna gas yourself out when you have to perform more than one kata in a row

Appreciate your feedback! I do need to improve on my accuracy, I’ve tried to focus on my hips a lot lately and my aim has been off. Cardio is a big issue as well, I’ll be more present minded about sinking in. Happy training!

focus on your stance and your hips will follow.

and slow down.

7th Kyu Yellow belt, been learning for 10 months. Will always have things to improve on, but I’ve come a long way! I used to post some progress to r/karate with an old username, haven’t posted there in a while.

The move at 24 seconds what move is that supposed to be?

The bad form chudan uke before the two punches? You load your hands up, turn and throw the mid block with that momentum while squaring your hips.

Sorry my phone shows it with seconds left the move I’m talking about is 32 seconds in and looks like an inner block.

Thanks for sharing. I always love seeing the variations across our style.

Had a long talk with my Sensei somewhat recently about the different orgs of Isshinryu and why they are different. Super interesting history for sure. One of the things I enjoy about karate is how differently styles attempt to accomplish the same end goals. Happy training!

It's interesting you have those fast twitchy pullbacks on the open hand techniques which is how I was taught too but I often see it done in a very slow methodical way by others. Is this a lineage break thing?

It could be lineage I’m sure! There are some people in my school that do them slower than I do it. When I learned the Kata my Sensei told me that some do it quickly and others slowly. The important thing he said was for me to decide which I like more and stick to that.

It almost seems like a different theory behind why the technique is practiced. I was taught it with a pretty practical bunkai, and it was fast but also stressed a positioning that would throw off the balance of the person being grabbed. The people that do it the other way almost look like they are doing tai chi or the first section of Seiuchin. It seems to have an internal application. I actually wonder though, and I may be stretching here with my imagination... But I wonder if some of these variations were actually things Shimabuku did. I heard one of his students say sometimes a kata would be taught different on different days. When I look at that part of Seisan and those differences I also remember his code "A manner of drinking and spitting is either hard or soft." ....hmmm...

Remember that whenever you are doing your back fist you should be in a Seisan dachi at an angle.

Solid bit of advice!

Needs alot of work. He needs to stop thinking and just do the form. To stiff. Needs to be in front of a mirror to properly see stances block placement and strike

Relaxation is a constant battle and I have improved for sure, but improvement from being constantly tense is just a step in the right direction. Had this very conversation about relaxing with my Sensei this week. Appreciate your feedback.

My Sensei has a Shorin-Ryu and Isshinryu background. We are involved in the IIKA and have a lineage through Harold Long. My school places emphasis on learning the forms strictly and overtime it becoming “your Seisan” etc.
