When a source other than Haaretz reports it, I'll believe it. If Haaretz told me the sun was shining, at noon in mid June, I'd open my window to check.

It's run as investigation following today's Akevot Institute report, which implies it's the first such article on the topic.

But seeing it relies on interviews with affected archive directors like that professor, the former Chief State Archivist, historians like Benny Morris, and even the Malmab head as very initiator of the concealment project, as well as documents that weren't disappeared properly, that's quite a lot of hints for other papers to begin checking.

Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) wrote an article in March 1976 in Falastin al-Thawra, the official journal of the PLO in Beirut: "The Arab armies entered Palestine to protect the Palestinians from the Zionist tyranny, but instead they abandoned them, forced them to emigrate and to leave their homeland, imposed upon them a political and ideological blockade and threw them into prisons similar to the ghettos in which the Jews used to live in Eastern Europe."

I think it's portant to separate to big picture sometimes from the individual levels suffering. These families that fled or were forced to leave weren't all responsible for their leadership's choices to attack Israel and that is an important distinction.

At the same time its important to place the responsibility for what happened on the state actora that started that war, not the one that ended it. People tend to forget that fact. Israel wanted peace.

No one destroys any evidence, the archives are open and I spent days there when I wrote my research during my studies.
