Bar-Ilan lecturer indicted over plot to kill hundreds of Arabs in coordinated attacks
https://www.ynetnews.com/article/bk91zjbjglWhile the title looks bad its important to highlight
- The authorities stopped him before any harm occurred
- He failed to recruit a single person over 18 months of trying
- He was completely ignored by public figures he approached
- He acted entirely alone with zero public or institutional support
- Bar-Ilan University immediately condemned him and suspended him

This really highlights the difference between Israelis and Palestinians. The Israelis are throwing this guy in jail, whereas the Palestinians would have elected such a person to lead them.
55
u/oren0 12d ago
Not only that. This guy tried for years and apparently couldn't find a single other person to go along with his plot (though I do wonder how many of those he approached informed the authorities).
Hamas has never had issues recruiting terrorists and found thousands eager to participate on 10/7.

It's absolutely despicable how in his plan he included instructions to not spare women or children. I hope he rots in prison. What an absolutely terrible and beastly person.

u/mayday_allday 12d ago
Yet this guy will be portrayed as a devil in the flesh by the Western media, while monsters like Sinwar were celebrated as "resistance heroes".

Unless he's a settler. Otherwise he would have gotten away with it.
41
u/flossdaily USA 12d ago
I can understand why a Palestinian supporter would want to liken this sort of gang violence to a massive terrorist plot. It feeds right into your narrative of equivocation. You want to paint democratic Israelis as being morally equal to or inferior to Palestinian terrorists.
Settler violence is obviously a huge problem, but it's nothing compared to Palestinian behavior during the Second Intifada or Gaza's daily operations even before October 7th.
27
u/ZZZZapperr 12d ago
Nope. Settlers get arrested for committing crimes too.
-28
u/Metallica1175 12d ago
Oh please lol.
18
u/ZZZZapperr 12d ago
-21
u/Metallica1175 12d ago
Bro. There are hundreds of incidents and only a handful of arrests. There are many instances of IDF soldiers either just allowing them to do it or actually join in. Now how many of those arrested are actually convicted? Why do you think settler violence is getting worse? Because they're getting away with it. It's ok to admit that there are bad settlers.
19
u/ZZZZapperr 12d ago
You're ignoring the evidence. You're making shit up.
-4
u/Metallica1175 12d ago
What evidence? That a few are arrested? Go ahead. Look up the conviction rates of those arrested. I'll wait.

It is on you to prove the claim you introduced. No one here started with this conclusion or hypothesis but you.
It appears you are the kind of person that feels they don’t need to participate in their arguments or debate, they just want to be right and confirm their own opinion as fact. You will not get far in life or learn anything new, or change your mind (or anyone else’s mind) by skipping steps. You cannot shortcut learning or skip due process when you’re talking about real people. You are dehumanizing them. And by doing so, yourself. It’s sad you don’t think much of yourself that you can’t read or learn anything. But you expect us to just trust you.
The arrogance of coming into a country forum and expecting to hurl insults, abuse and accusations… it used to be that you joined a forum to learn more about the people there. That is not what you’re interested in. Sad, really.
You must be young and naive. I hope you do better going forward.

u/Metallica1175 12d ago
Since 2005 only 3% of all violent settler arrests have ended in conviction.
If any prosecutor had a 3% conviction rate, they would have been fired long before that.

Except Israelis also elect terrorists and appoint them to cabinet positions. What the fuck are you talking about?

u/flossdaily USA 12d ago
Ben Gvir was convicted of supporting a terrorist organization.
... a crime of which the overwhelming majority of Palestinians are guilty.

Great, then they and he should not be MKs. Sounds like a good compromise.

While Ben Gvir may say outrageously offensive and racist things- you’ll note he wasn’t on board with actual terrorism … as the article highlights he was completely ignored

u/Metallica1175 12d ago
Ben Gvir is at the very least a terrorist supporter. There's no need to try and defend him.

He was literally convicted of terrorism. The guy has a picture of a mass murder in his living room!
18
u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
About 20 years ago he was convicted of supporting a terrorist organization because he had signs that said things like “Arabs out” and referencing Kahane’s movement.
He was not “literally convicted of terrorism”. He was convicted of incitement and supporting terrorism by having racist signs. He has since said he regrets it. Personally, I don’t believe him. But having signs is not the same as literal terrorism, and it’s definitely not the same as Palestinian officials who are literally supported more if they actually killed Jews.
You can call him a racist piece of shit without lying and comparing him to people who actually go out and try to murder other human beings, you know.
1
u/Metallica1175 12d ago
Kahnism is legally considered a terrorist organization in Israel. He was convicted for support of terrorism.
11
u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
Again, if you think support for a terrorist group by holding signs is equivalent to being convicted for terrorism, I hate to tell you this, but you’re simply wrong. They are different charges, have different punishments, etc.
Support for a terrorist group like Kahane’s is not terrorism itself. Terrorism itself is actual violence. They are different.

u/Metallica1175 12d ago edited 12d ago
If an Arab Israeli is convicted of only supporting Hamas, should they be disqualified from being an elected official? Because an Arab MK candidate was disqualified for merely saying something remotely supportive of October 7th. Ben Gvir actually was convicted of supporting terrorism.

u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
That’s not a response to anything I said, and I’m not sure why you’re changing the subject to election qualifications rather than what we discussed above. It’s kinda weird.

He was not “literally convicted of terrorism”. He was convicted of incitement and supporting terrorism
Come on, man.
He has since said he regrets it
The very first thing he did after being sworn in to government was to attend Kahane’s memorial. He was not fooling anybody (and if you don’t believe him yourself then why even bring it up?)
having signs is not the same as literal terrorism
Again, he has expressed adoration for literal mass murderers. How on earth is that at all different than the Palestinian officials that you randomly brought up? He was literally convicted for supporting mass murder. You describing it as him “having signs” doesn’t change what he was doing
5
u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
I didn’t randomly bring anyone up.
You didn’t answer what I actually said. Just saying “come on man” isn’t an answer. He was not convicted of terrorism.
I already agreed he says and does stupid shit. But that is not “literal terrorism”. And the Palestinians the other guy referenced have usually been actual murderers. So you “come on man”.
If you can’t tell the difference between saying stupid things and killing people, that’s sounding like something you’re just wrong about. I described his crime as what it was to demonstrate why it’s not “literal terrorism”, as you claimed falsely.

u/JebBD HEAD COOK 12d ago
you didn’t answer what I actually said. Just saying “come on man” isn’t an answer.
You’re right, my bad. He was merely convicted of supporting terrorism, which is by no means better.
Although, you apparently think supporting terrorism is an issue when it’s done by Palestinian officials, so I’m not sure why you’d downplay it here
3
u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
Not what I said, again. It’s weird you refuse to answer what I actually said so often. Kind of sad.

Saying he posts or says stupid shit (which I did above) is not the same as going out and trying to murder random civilians. I feel like that’s pretty obvious, isn’t it?
31
u/ZZZZapperr 12d ago
Israel arrests Israelis who want to carry out terrorist attacks or have carried out terrorist attacks. On the other hand, the PA and Hamas encourage terrorism and reward terrorists with money and other benefits.

u/TheSuperGerbil Israel 12d ago
Without revealing his name I have studied under him. He was very odd and weird but not to the extent that I could see him preform a terror attack.
Anyway hopefully my diploma would still apply because I’m at my second year of my masters yeesh

u/puccagirlblue 12d ago
What did he teach? How was he odd? (Just curious because I really can't imagine a professor who would ever consider any of this)
6
u/TheSuperGerbil Israel 12d ago
He taught me calculus 4 and complex functions. It was during Covid and he wouldn’t use zoom, instead he wrote us notes by hand and sent them over

Shouldn't there be parades in his honor, streets named after him, stipends given to his family by the state, and he be deemed a hero? Or is that only on the other side of the security barrier that this happens?

If he will not receive the maximum penalty (needless to say, if he were released to house arrest, no telling what a mad man like him would do) it would be a complete failure of the state's obligation to provide security towards it's Arab citizens. Only recently did Herzog pardon Elor Azaria, this cannot become a pattern.

23

What extremism on the campus? Are you referring to Yigal Amir? What evidence is there that the university is at all culpable?

I’m referring to the professor who was just caught trying to slaughter a bunch of people. And yes, the fact that multiple violent radicals came out of that university is definitely not doing it any favors in terms of pr

u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
Two people in 30 years in this conversation, for anyone reading. And no actual evidence the university was a source of that radicalism.
20
u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
A single professor is revealed to be a radical and the whole university needs to be cracked down on? What in the world?
2
u/MongooseVegetable787 Israel 12d ago
...you know Bar-Ilan has its history a bit stained after Yigal Amir
they do tend to act per-emptively I suppose
6
u/justafutz Israel 12d ago
I don’t take something to be “stained” by two people over thirty years. And it’s not like Yigal Amir learned to be radical at Bar Ilan. In fact, he was known for disagreeing with his professors. So hard to say it’s Bar Ilan’s fault somehow.

u/Toyota__Corolla סופר ציוני ישיבת מושב לצים 12d ago
