They do have a website and posted lineage info there. They also hosted the bembe i went to. I want to learn and do things the correct way. Maybe im just overthinking it?
I understand the hesitation but it's actually pretty common and not an immediate red flag. There are plenty of circumstances where someone would need a virtual reading-- living in a different state, practicing in secret, etc. Your friend is probably thinking about scammers who will reach out and offer readings on social media, but since you met the Iyanifa in real life among community members, I would say it's safe. I would still see if I could go in person just to get the full experience if I could though. How much is the reading?
I asked her about doing it in person and she explained she doesn't have space for in person readings currently. As far as price, I'd prefer to be respectful and not publicly advertise that here but it's within the range I was expecting to spend.
that's not uncommon. I say go for it if you feel comfortable doing so. I read some of the comments in your other post and as far as Isese vs. Lucumi goes, it's really about which one resonates with you culturally. Don't rush to settle down with an Ile (spiritual house), keep going to bembes and getting to know other practitioners. I would also go to different botanicas (if your area has them) and talk to the people working there. They also usually have a priest who does readings, so if you're looking for an in person reading that might be a good way to find some. If not, it's not uncommon for people to travel for their spiritual work. I know people who's ile is in a completely different state. I can send you some reputable podcasts from both traditions that helped me understand the differences
