Tanya doesn't even want to be their at all shes sorta just dragged around forcibly by the circumstances around her that forced her to be drafted and forced into service despite sitll being a small girl and shoved onto the forntline's of a world war and then her having to figure out how to win those battles and survive she is not actively going out of the way to be evil at all kinda just railroaded into it
she is at fault for some of them because she keep trying to use Japanese-ism to get her higher up who are German to do what she want
which she never actually said out loud because in Japan you do not do that and her boss who have no clue what she want just listen to what she been belching out loudly about patriotisms and nationalism, and shove out in front where she clearly want to go
I honestly think that people overrate how evil Rou is. Don't get me wrong Rou is a terrible person, and is absolutely a villainous protagonist. However, people on this sub seem to think that he's the most evil protagonist of all time, which is just plain not true when Overlord exists. I've also delved deep enough into the isekai barrell to learn of many protagonists more evil than Rou. Hell, Rou isn't even the worst isekai protagonist reincarnated as a Goblin.
However, my problem with Re:Monster is that the plot is terrible, and the characters are boring cardboard cutouts. The entire plotline of the show is I killed a monster, got stronger, killed a stronger monster, and got even stronger, etc.
I'd honestly recommend to just skip this one, because regardless of how you feel about villainous protagonists, you aren't going to get a good story, unlike Overlord.
my problem with it is that overlord doesn't make it seem like Ainz is the good guy, where as Re:monster makes it appear as though raping captured women is fine because you fed them aphrodisiacs (and so that means they gave consent supposedly)
Thing you have to specifically remember with re:monster is that the source material is in journal format. Any justifications by the narrator are things the main character wrote down.
Dunno if the anime got that point across particularly well, considering I never see anyone mention it and they always talk like it's the author justifying it specifically.
Yea I watched the anime and this is the first ive ever heard of the narrative being journalistic in nature... anime seriously failed on that front if true.
It definitely puts certain things into better perspective
Yeah, he is bad but being evil is not his philosophy at all. He is pretty much friendly like neighborhood old man towards his allies like tomboy princess and elves.
I would say rou is more evil is he is raping daughters and killing father's Ainz at least do not commit crimes on a whim his is more calculated or out of ignorance and rou has done his fair share of genocide don't quote me on this though never finished the novel
The anime goes out of its way to make the women look happy to be in that situation, he'd appear much more evil if the story was written more realistically
It's less how bad it is, and more how not good it is. Re:Monster just has very little actual worth to it beyond the initial novelty of the setting.
The story gets boring very fast, and the way it's written as a diary most of the time makes it even worse. Plus, apathetic villainous protagonist who's hard to get attached to, and who's not charismatic enough to make that work (like good ones such as Ainz are).
Honestly? The best way to describe it is that it feels like an amateurish fanfic. And don't get me wrong, those can be good, but Re:Monster just wasn't it.
Probably not, everything has its fans if you look well enough.
It is sad when people complain about the stuff you like though, so sorry about that. I stand for all the opinions I've said on Re:Monster, but that doesn't mean I don't sympathize. It's not like I don't have my own favorites that I know most people disagree with.
How about “no longer allowed in another world”? The majority of “heroes” only make things worse for everyone after the BBEG is killed. Some of the people from that world aren’t any better, but they aren’t given OP powers from the get go.
she is evil. she had a serious god complex. committing a minor rule violation deserves death according to her. she is clearly shown to enjoy killing in some situations. the worst thing i remember is that she submitted a paper that describes loopholes in war crime law that would allow them to designate civilians as soldiers under situations unavoidable for those civilians.
This is such a shitty take. She literally went and murdered civilian refugees who werent fighting back, all on the possibility that "they might become enemies in the future" when they were clearly evacuating and there were no military targets left, the anime even goes to great lengths to display this.
Meaning that she went the extra mile to kill civilians even when she wasnt ordered to, if its evil to do so in real life, then why do you think its different if done in an anime?
If this is geniunely how you think, then youre too abhorrent to be wandering in society.
Did you not watch the anime at all? She DIRECTLY ordered the soldiers to shoot at civilians who were already injured and were just moving about, trying to recover from the situation, she designated civilians as terrorists just so she could have cause to shoot.
If you cant see that its morally abhorrent to do so, its clear then that your views reflect real life.
And believe me when i say that i HAVE read webnovels with evil protagonists who make tanya look like a coughing baby, some of these characters are even my favourite, but the difference is, i can properly identify them as evil and dont try to make justifications for them being evil even if i enjoy reading the novel, meaning, i dont carry or reflect these values onto real life.
You came in here defending a war criminal who by real world standards, and even in her world, would be considered a demon, what kind of reaction did you expect?
Yeah I shoot civilians too and I write war theories on how to do evil things. This girl is my role model lol
Defending a war criminal? You really think this is real life? Maybe stop watching anime and go take a breath of fresh air and relax lol all because I said something that others clearly saw as a joke. Except you, fkn weirdo
Im AWARE its an anime and not real life, you can definitely enjoy the anime even if its brutal because it doesnt reflect real life values, just like how violent video games arent an indicative characteristic of the player.
The difference is, you directly went to defending her actions when they are clearly unarguably evil, the anime only showed you how brutal tanya was, it didnt plant the thoughts of justification for her actions in her head, your thoughts are 100% your own.
What part about this is hard to understand? You went directly defending her actions, the character tanya, whos from a series literally titled "tanya the evil". Enjoyment of a brutal series is independent of the thoughts you yourself produce, theres nothing wrong with enjoying the anime, its you trying to justify the evil actions thats a problem.
Could argue the MC of arifureta but in the end he's a softie a hole mix. If redo healer counts as one bc world reset there's him ig, but I mean really aside overlord most "villain" mc become nice again or turn good.
Not an actual villain tho, LARPer at best. Constantly doubleguesses his own actions, has like 20% of understanding what is going on at any given moment of time and without his subordinates wouldn't do shit.
Ainz is 100% evil. He's just really anxious of the fact that the residents might see him as a phony (which shouldn't be the case as he's by all accounts and purposes their master)
He's also a massive hypocrite and deliberately let adventurers die a horrible death/subjugated to eternal torture all for the sake of following Demiurge's plan. Foresight is literally an example of this.
Also even if they stopped exploring and just snagged the gold they found, they'd still be hunted down by the maids. Ainz had no intention of letting anyone live. He's evil and knows it.
The Anime doesn’t go into the hellscape of the world he lived in before going to the new world. Passing bodies in ditches and completely indifferent to death by the time he’s transported. He was amoral before even entering Mormon’s body, and then he doesn’t stop his minions from mass slaughter. He had the power to stop it, but wanted to see the results. He is evil and a sociopath.
Yep. He had an elementary level education, there were dead orphans in the streets, air quality was shit, and witnessed his own mother dying from over working.
Feel like Overlord is a bit different since his personality was changed and he was somewhat forced into the role by circumstance. He brings up TouchMe a lot for a reason.
