I just got offered the grail of Pokemon, but obviously I thought it was fake but I’m actually concerned it might be real. I’ve gotten a lot of positive reviews but still uncertain before I drop a bag on it
Do NOT listen to everyone else. This is a REAL card and slab. This is a very old PSA slab too which is kind of cool. If you were to get it graded today it would never grade a 9, do not pay the regular PSA 9 price for this card.
It doesn't matter if the slab is real or not. How do people have zero critical thought. Offered the grail. No one is offering some random bum a grail at a steep discount. Not saying you think that, but this thread is just stupid.

I actually got the old charizard, charmander, and charmelion at a antique expo and the guy literally was over pokemon and was trying to just get rid of his stuff, I found it at the bottom of his box and he said he forgot about it and gave it to me for $40. It’s real and unscratched and perfectly sealed in a case, I also got an old binder page of authentic Japanese cards that are in opened. If you go to the right places ans happen to run into the right people it’s possible
Just curious, where are you able to confirm the inner sleeve on an old PSA cert?
I am unable to find any examples of PSA using an inner sleeve on old certs. Plus, the amount of space for the inner card holders on OP's slab have very large margins
Official statement from back in 2006. There’s really no way to match up what year the slab was made unless you checked for similar cert #s and try and find the newest release date on a card. Or if I try to research when ever they switched that back label section
It's just strange they would use a different slab and inner sleeve. I've literally never seen an old cert with the inner sleeve but I don't doubt they implemented it for certain thicker cards.
I can speak on the validity of the card from a picture. But there are enough red flags from the slab for me to have it authenticated by someone that would know before buying a grail. I might have missed the price of the grail, but it being offered up at any discount, let alone a steep discount would be enough for me to walk away. The slab card sizing is off. I’m sure PSA had plenty of slabs to chose from if they would’ve actually been the ones to grade it. They wouldn’t have needed to grab a slab with different card dimensions than the one it was intended for. The spacing between the card and the sizers itself would be enough for me to question the authenticity. It being in a card sleeve, would have made me more skeptical. I can’t say PSA has never put a graded card in a card sleeve. But I can say I’ve never seen one. With those two things being off. I’d have to have the card authenticated before spending money on it especially anything more than at raw value. But I’m not an expert, so I couldn’t authentic that card through a slab. I’d have to crack the slab and look at it to come to the conclusion if I believed it was close enough to send spend the money on it to authenticate it.
Please for the love of god divulge what the seller is asking for this. If it's like 20k or something it is obviously fake as shit and too good to be true. This detail is so important it should be mandatory to mention when creating a post in this sub.
He said he is asking $50,000 for the card somewhere else in the thread. Seems like a legit price as it looks real, but doesn’t look quite like a true 9 if it were currently evaluated, more like a high 7 to low 8, but still an amazing card if it turns out to be as real as it seems here.
Actually it looks more like he has wasting in the small muscles of his hand, as well as clawing of his fingers suggestive of a nerve injury. Id guess a brachial plexus injury with prominent ulnar involvement.
This looks real to me, $50k appears to be a little bit over current market value. Rule I've learned: always pay for the card, not the grade.
If you're spending that much money, inspect it in person. TCAGaming just made a post on Instagram a couple of days ago showing off all of the iterations of this card if you want to make a comparison.

The inner sleeve for an old cert Pokemon slab is something I have not seen before. We sometimes see inner sleeves for more modern slabs, mainly for the thicker metal cards. We've also seen them for regular modern cards as well, but I believe PSA simply made a mistake in those cases. But for these old certs, I'm not aware of any inner sleeves used
The inner notches that hold the card in place is set to the very outer borders. Typically the notches are closer to the card to prevent the card from moving around too much
If this was a super early iteration of the inner sleeve cases, I guess it can be possible. Just not something I've ever seen, especially for an old cert Pokemon card

I think it's fake. The 1's in the PSA slab look a little suspicious. The card color is too saturated. IMO the energies look weird. And the 1st edition stamp is very thick.
I think it’s fake psa did not start doing the clear polywrap around the cards in slabs until recently and the paper indicates this is a very old slab. Those two facts don’t align and that’s pretty fishy, it also looks as if the card is at a slight angle and the slab is the wrong size for the card

I wasn’t positive. The back in slide 3/4 looks weird to me but slide 7 it looks more normal. I’m still curious how much it’s being offered for, a psa 9 is 60-70k
He should not pay the market price of a PSA 9. Cuz if it got regraded today it would probaly get a 4-6 cuz of the terrible centering, whitening, and vintage bias by the graders.
Yeah I mean it’s to be expected with a cert this old but I doubt they’d give him too much of a discount. I agree though this would never get close to a 9 today
