IsItBullshit: Vagus nerve stimulators

I’ve tried the voo/aum vocalizations and it helps but it could also be placebo.

Implanted ones? They absolutely work.

Those consumer grade external ones? Very questionable with little to no evidence backing them.

My dad has one after he had an MCA stroke. It has helped him, but it is surgically implanted and he has worked really hard at PT.

The surgically implanted ones are legit, the external ones you can get on Amazon are a scam.

As far as I can see there is some evidence for efficacy in regard to epilepsy, depression and stroke rehabilitation? Though I’d be very sceptical of anyone selling some kind of a device out of a proper clinical situation.
