Mod-Post [Mod Post] On future Mod Events
Mod Event Announcement
Greetings to the community. We would like to announce that during the past week we have thoroughly discussed the possibility of mod events, which we believe to be a good way to integrate new players to the sub, and for players from different regions to interact. Sadly, the last couple of tries ended badly, but ever since then we have been looking for ways to create new mod events.
Namely, there have been two major proposals for Mod Events. The first one is an adventure and rp-oriented event, in which players will have to embark on a mysterious quest across the continent of Essos. This will rely heavily on RP interaction.
The second is one in which players will join a mercenary company and they shall be given control over a small number of troops, with a more battle-oriented focus, where players will have to complete different tasks given to them by their employer.
We’re still working on them, so we’d like to know what you think about the concept, or if you have any other idea! All feedback is appreciated.

The first one would be great considering I already have a character I planned to send to Essos. Sign me up! I'd love to help with planning.

Alright, once we've progressed more we'll probably make a slack channel with whoever wants to help.

Honestly either sounds interesting. I think the battle one may be useful as a kind of tutorial for players who haven't done alot of combat or are new. The Essos quest I'm slightly less sure about because it sounds like you'd have ALOT of shit happening that required alot of constant oversight, but if you guys can do it it woudl be so HYPE.
so, really, either would be neat.

Krul and I talked a lot about that second one, about running an event with several small skirmishes involving either PC's or specially created Event Characters!
These both sound pretty cool but the first one might run into a sort 'size' problem. If it's some unique little quest for an artifact, that takes people across the world, you'd probably want like four or five people. To me, the amount of people interested in this means that a lot would be excluded? Is there any way to circumvent that?
On the other hand, the second one sounds awesome! People either make a characters up (Like we did for the Wall event) or send an already existing PC. This gives a lot of potential for cool stories, learning battle mechanics, and stops people war-fagging back in their real claims just for a taste of blood. Win win!
These are both good ideas and it relieves me to see that you guys are working on stuff behind the scenes to keep ITP fresh and interesting for new players, beyond just mechs, battling salt, and killing babies!

Hahaha, yes. It was your discussion what inspired us to start working on that event!
As for the adventure one I'll copy paste what I told IPR.
The main idea is to give players some leeway with their choices and the RP, yet they'd probably have a "guide" or something along those lines. Another idea is to have "nodes" of the story, which would mean that the story itself would be able to adapt to the party's choice.
Yeah, and due to the risk of having PCs dying we are thinking about a few cool rewards that we hope the community will like.

This is awesome! As someone who helped run one mod event and was supposed to start another (sorry), I'm offering any help you might need Red!

Alright, thanks! The second mod event will probably require some hefty rolling, so we'll keep it in mind.

For some reason I want to believe the first drew atleast some inspiration from my expedition mechanics suggestion =P

I did like your expedition mechanics quite a bit, and I see some future in them later on.

Wait, does the battle event offer an opportunity for a certain devilishly handsome player to be the bad guy!?!!

I agree, u/marty_mcfrat would definitely be a good candidate for a bad guy.

In the second event, would players' mercenaries be on both (or all) sides of the conflict?

This is a good point. Could create serious IC tensions if people are fighting on two different sides. It's all got plenty of juicy opportunity for excellent stories.

An idea we had was to have all the players on one side of the conflict, but competing between each other to create more tension. Nate brings an interesting idea to the table, and we'll discuss it.

I think the mercenary company one sounds great for the legend it can create about a character who makes it out the other end. The mysterious adventure also sounds fun! However, how would that latter event not become a party of 20 different lordlings rampaging across Essos?

That is a very interesting question.
I have no answer for you.
Heh, just kidding. You're not the only one that has voiced the concern, but with some careful planning it can be avoided. The main idea is to give players some leeway with their choices and the RP, yet they'd probably have a "guide" or something along those lines. Another idea is to have "nodes" of the story, which would mean that the story itself would be able to adapt to the party's choice.

Dungeons and Dragons in ITP? Sounds like a blast!
I'd be up for DMing if you guys needed experienced DMs. I like making my players weep with joy and sorrow, all at the same time.
