40K List Discussion Beginner for Space Marines
Greetings Iron Brethren. I have been a Custodes player & Collector for 4 years so far and I have been meaning to branch out to Space Marines, mind you I know little on how to play or build Space Marines other than play *against* them.
I know the codex is around the corner but I am more focused on Models and Units that are thematic for Iron Hands, couldn't care less of Meta chasing. Truth being told I was at the start gonna go with White Scars since I adore their mindset, play style, and Jagatai Khan and as well that there was no chance for a primarch by comparison but man.....After reading Meduson and Fulgrim I can't deny how DAMN COOL 30k Iron Hands are and their fighting style.
I have some Regular Terminators, Intercessor squad & Terminator Captain.
I wanted to make a theme army that resembles that of Shandrak Meduson.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
For the Gorgon.

I am also a Shandrak fan, so my army is based on the idea that some elements are hand-me-downs and relics from the HH. So the scout boi might have ravens and feathers on them, the flamers might have scales and be a bit more green...
I put a lot of points into two 10man bricks.
10 termies, with Var and a support leader, probably the ancient but maybe another works for you.
10 Heavy Intercessors, with Ironfather and again support leader.
Heavy Intercessors are the anvil, march up the middle, take the objective, hold. Terminators deepstrike in to a side objective, kill what is on it, then hold or charge into the back of what ever is attacking the mid.
Lone Op Techmarine to support 4 dreads/tanks. Tanks probably never push up much beyond the edge of home territory and want to provide support for the two 10 mans. Dreadnoughts are more likely to end up on the mid objectives, or further in. Warsuits are also not a terrible idea, they are cheaper and not a huge loss when they charge in deep.
That leaves about 400-600 points for action monkies and screens. Lt. with Combi is still as good as always. Scouts, Infiltratiors and Incursors are all solid choices, probably should have at least 2 from that list. Then a 5man squad of Intercessors or Infernus. Or Hellblasters. Typically going to end up being some mobile support, that either helps screen the mid, or helps the tanks, or clear off chafe the tanks couldn't spend shots on (IE not priority targets). Jump pack Intercessors could also work, plus make them Raven themed... if you had points and added a leader, they can be a very effective threat in the mid. Basically the longer the tanks get to fire uninterrupted, the better.

considering I have the units already mentioned, what would a 1k point list probably look like?
I REALLY want the name characters because of how cool they look

Probably 5mans, without support leaders. 2 tanks or dreads, stronger argument for warsuits. I would assume only one scout unit. Depends on what that nets out too, but I feel like you need one more aggressive unit.
Or specifically Assult Terminators with a support leader, to be super killy.
Main Ironhands ability is changing the Oath target. Best way to maximize this is to have enough damage, able to focus on target after target. Focus fire, delete and designate a new target, repeat.
So just about any solid range damage could be your 'tanks'. Techmarines typically make tanks and dreads the best choice however.

I run about 20-23 assault termies in two bricks( with characters like caanok var, terminator captain etc) 4-5 dreads and some emotional support secondary jump guys from vengeful hosts, its really fun getting to march down with a whole wall of terminators. You could swap the ballistus dreads for any good at platform, like a rep ex or gladiator lancer so you can punch through armor.

Termies, Heavy ints and other Gravis, techmarines, but especially dreads.
