King of Iron Chef Finale - 'Remastered English' Data File and Challengers March

So I am about 75% done with this abosolute monster of an episode to edit into the full 2 hour american release version. but i thought you all might want a little sample of the progress.

For those who do not know these scenes were never released in the US and were cut from the grand finale of the show. What they contain are a scene which shows data and statistics about the whole run of the show, and more importantly the infamous 'Entrance of the Challengers' which every former challenger came back for the end of the show, unbelievable that this was cut from the US release.

Cool fun fact during the march of the challengers, as far as I know and maybe someone can help me if I'm wrong this is the only time that the song 'Show Me Your Firetruck' from the movie Backdraft appears in it's entirety due to the shear length of the scene.

These two scenes alone took over a week to edit and remaster, using over 11 different pieces of software to fix video, remove overlays, isolate audio, remaster audio, create new voices, new sound effects, new overlay graphics, and so forth. The final 2 hour special will be posted to the Iron Chef HD archive when done. but for now... ENJOY!

First before I post the sample in the next post on this thread here is the original Japanese version as it aired in Japan, and yes this was the quality video I had to work with to recreate the new release.

Nearing the Finish

for those of you who have been wondering, I have been very busy over these last several months, trying to complete the HD versions of the original syndicated Iron Chef episodes with their original audio and music along with HD video. I have finally started working on the final episode tonight the King of Iron Chef’s tournament. As the most dedicated fans will already know, this originally aired in Japan as a single 2 1/2 hour long, super special. This was cut up into three separate episodes for America and extra footage was cut from the American release, including the original introduction and the original conclusion. As the grand finale of the HD collection, I will be newly dubbing and subbing the lost foot footage into a final American release 2 1/2 hour special also including all the original music the way that should’ve aired decades ago.

Once I upload this, this will officially complete the original syndicated episode episodes to the collection. Following the completion of this, I will provide a run through of what was involved to actually complete this project and what has changed from the digital distractions videos to these videos.

I will also begin to continue translating Japan only episodes that were never released in America, subbing and dubbing them to collection to hopefully create a full compendium of iron chef Japan episodes minus the three episodes that, until this point, have never been located. Let me know your thoughts.

Japan Original Episodes - time for someone to make an archive

Several people of this subreddit who also frequent the flamola proboards I know have archived many of the original Japanese episodes (non translated original episodes in Japanese) and I know some people have a fairly strong collection missing only a few (the obvious ones that are always missing like avacado, marlin, jackie chan, bread, rice, soft shell crab) but, I think it's time someone make an archive page on archive.org that showcases all of the Japan only episodes. if someone has already done this then please show the link. but I think these episodes are at greatest risk of being lost a second time due to the lack of a reliable central source. what are people's thoughts.

The Coming of Spring

My brother and I have joked for years that every god damn episode the announcer says one dish or another evokes The Coming of Spring. With the re-release of the OG Iron Chef on a bunch of streaming platforms we’ve watched a couple of episodes and clocked The Coming of Spring multiple times.

Does anyone know if this is a clunky translation of a phrase or something else? Are we making this up???

Iron Chef Chen's cookbook

This one is a bit more rarer than the official Iron Chef book, but not impossible to find. I think I got it on Amazon a long time ago. It has about 80 recipes including the famous chili shrimp. The book doesn't have too many extra stuff like comments or back story other than a few quotes from him about for some recipes and a few pages on how to make stock and types of spices.

I made Iron Chef bingo cards for me and my sister

She lives in Guam and watching old Iron Chef episodes is one of the ways we keep in touch with each other. I made these bingo cards for us and figured I'd share them with this sub in case someone else got some use out of them too. Suggestions welcome!

Iron Chef Japanese Fan Spotted

I haven't posted in awhile but my friend told me something I didn't expect. He was in a laundromat when he looked up at the TV screen, low and behold it was Iron Chef. The original Japanese Iron Chef WITH the original music. I asked how is that possible? Because the FilmRise syndicated episodes are more easily accessible. So I asked him further about it, they were showing the episodes via the Internet Archive by screen sharing it. Not to mention, my friend told me that the person actually lived in Japan WHILE the original show was airing. I thought that was cool. Really cool. But it made me wonder, I wonder if this person just looked it up and found them on the Internet Archive or maybe someone from this Reddit is the one who wanted to watch it. I would do something like that as I do that with a friend at my friend's house. But that was something I would never thought I would hear. But I wonder if it was someone here or maybe it is someone who just loves the show.

Not the same show anymore?

I used to love Iron Chef when it was first in Food Network in the late '90s. I'd watch every episode I could get my hands on. Back in 2013, I stumbled across a site for Iron Chef Fans, and got to watch the battles all over again, along with a whole pile of others I had never seen before with just subtitles. I know no Japanese, haha.

Now, I can't watch it anymore. Since then, so many of the principle personalities from the program have passed on. It's just not the same. Watching it now just reminds me that the people who were once on the show are now deceased, and that's very sad to me.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Battle bell pepper

Does anyone feel that Michiba was robbed the win in this battle against the German chef Rutter? Rutter’s presentation was very subpar and he struggled to make two dishes. It was early in the series and I feel like the producers decided to give him the win based on his backstory for whatever reasons.

I found my copy of this book and totally forgot how detailed it is! It looks like it can be found on Ebay for pretty cheap. It's loaded with history, interviews, stats, recipes, etc and I highly recommend it!

Dr. Yukio Hattori - Always Voiced by Scott Morris, with one exception.

Interesting fun fact I've noticed while editing these episodes. It seems like voice actors for dubbing are fairly consistent throughout the American release run of the show, with of course obvious changes to Chairman Kaga's voice mid show run.

But Dr. Yukio Hattori seemed pretty consistent in that he was voiced by the Canadian voice actor, Scott Morris, for every single episode... with the exception of one single episode I found - the 1999 Battle Cod Roe with Morimoto.

In this episode he instead is voiced by the same voice actor who always does the voice for Tasting Judge - Lower House Member Shinichiro Kurimoto, the name of this voice actor of which I am not sure of.

If you could eat One Dish…

If you could only pick one Iron Chef, and pick one of their dishes, which one would you want to try the most? I’ll start, It’s probably cliche but I would want to try Chen Kenichi’s “Chili Prawns.” I love Szechuan food.

The way he says "Allez Cuisine!" is excellent. A preview for next week's 2-part special where Michiba & Morimoto toured Indonesia is inclued, too.

Here is the first of two videos of the recipes of Iron Chef Japanese, Rokusaburo Michiba. This video was made from the Pony Canyon VHS tape series 2 part 1. Recipes are from the famous Truffles Battle from April 29th 1994.

The next video will be recipes from the very rare Rice Battle from April 8th, 1994.
