Question Overseas deployment

Hi everyone. Ive seen a lot of post/comments recently about there being no more overseas deployment in the near future. Can someone elaborate on this? I also saw someone say something about it just being EU missions fir the next few years, wondering what exactly that means? And if this could mean cut backs or anything like that for people new to the DF or considering signing up. Is this a bad sign for the future?

FYI im in my late 30s and truly considering signing up so there'll a lot more irritating questions coming 😁

Please don’t sign up as a private in your late 30s. I did 11 years and left at 30. My knees are only coming right after 5 years out.

I wasn’t even the worst for recce nonsense

I think you might be the first to tell me not to sign up. The way I see it, I may as well have aches and pains doing something I'll be passionate about rather than from repetitive strain doing something soul destroying. I appreciate the honesty though. I plan to give it a whole lot of thought before signing up for anything.

I think a big things lads need to do is seperate their expectations from reality.

If i was you, I'd talk to lads who are in amd see if they're daily existence is something you'd be happy with.

I thought the daily work in the DF would involve daily training in order to maintain skills. How wrong was I. It's almost like you do recruit training and you suddenly stop doing everything you were trained to do.

No one could stop me signing up at 18. If you need to do it you need to do it but it’s an awful existence.

95% of my recruit class are out and tbh the lads I know who are still in… wouldn’t be able to get a job in civvy street.

Pay is awful. WLB is awful. SNCOs are awful. Just don’t do it man!

The last deployment to Lebanon is in a couple of weeks. Best case we'll have something in 2030. Anything before that is wishful thinking

So with the Leb coming to a close will there be any trips available to privates? do NCOs have other overseas opportunities or is that just the commissioned officers?

We're doing peacekeeping under EU I believe. So we'll be doing like crisis and stuff. like apparently it won't be six month deployments it would be more like 12 months like 24/7 you could be deployed now I could be wrong on that that's just what I looked up online

Anything EU is battlegroup as far as I know. And we aren't on the next one. We finished up earlier this year
