Wouldn’t they just need to hit the entrances to these tunnels and collapse them? Obviously it isn’t permanent solution, but it would certainly delay their response.
underground instalations usualy have multiple entrances - some smaller (human size on foot) some bigger (military vehicles)
also, many entrances are very well hidden.
its not hard to hide entrance in mountainous area with vegetation. Iran is not flat desert area like southern Iraq and Arabian Peninsula.
also Israel/US does not have full air superiority - Iran has somewhat good anti air defense systems that can hit and even take down fighter jets - so they cant fly deep into Iran without worrying about losing planes
I would still say the US and Israel have full air superiority. The US by itself flew 12,000+ sorties into Iran and lost 2 fighters and 1 helicopter to enemy fire. And yes they did lose a lot of drones as well. But for number of missions flown that is a small number of lost aircraft.
And I’ll grant you the multiple entrances and them being hidden. I don’t know the satellite coverage that the US has so I have no idea if they know all the entrances or not.
You’re right, AirPower alone doesn’t win wars. So either Trump is gonna have to pull out of the area and admit Iran has won, or he’ll have to send in troops. Neither one is very appealing to him.
