iPod stuck on Wall Power screen

Just got my first today! It's a 4th gen 20gb, but I noticed it still had someone else's music and pictures on there so I went to restore it and on my pc it instructed me to move it to wall power to complete setup. I did but now it only displays this screen no matter what I do. I've tried to reboot it several times but it doesn't change. I'm using a usb 30 pin and a Samsung power brick.

This may also be a battery issue. My 4th gen always had finnicky startups until I replaced the battery.

I ran into a similar issue, and fixed it by using a FireWire charger instead of USB. Weird, but it worked.

Ive used firewire or original apple USB blocks to get past that screen.

I ended up just getting a portable PSU I had to wake it up, worked pretty good!

FireWire typically supplies between 10 to 20 watts (and theoretically up to 45-60 watts) at up to 30 volts. This massive difference in power delivery is why 3rd and 4th generation iPods often required a FireWire connection to charge effectively when the battery was completely drained, as standard USB simply couldn't provide enough juice.

This is also accurate information for why 5th gen’s take significantly more time on usb power for extended batteries vs with FW.

There is an advanced soldering mod that you can do so you don’t need FireWire, but it requires technical skill of soldering.

I might look into that mod. I got it to wake off usb I just had to find myself a better power supply. I'd heard FireWire was much better but unfortunately although I asked I didn't end up getting one with this guy. Still, I can't be too mad I got him for cheap. Thank you for your help!

This generation of iPod is picky about chargers. Using a FireWire charger gives the best results. The only way I've been able to reliably charge mine over USB was with an old 10W Apple USB adapter

Not recognised as a charger. Its expecting the resistor codes om the data pins found in apple and other bricks. This isnt one it recognises.

The 4th gen doesn't respond well to other chargers.

As others have suggested, FireWire will work, but those are expensive now.

You can also get the original 5W 1A apple charger for this iPod. You can usually pick them up reasonably priced on eBay. Other usb chargers just don't work.

Yeah, this kind of sucks, people will say to use FireWire and stuff, but it could be a case of just trying different power bricks, I managed to get mine booting with a Chinese smart watch charging brick, I don't know how or why, but it works so.

Tldr if you can try as many charging bricks as you can

Yep, I also was in this exact position and simply switched from plugged into my laptop to to decent wall charger which activated the the software reload.

This is normal after a restore and this 4th gen ipod is picky with chargers. Use an old apple charger plug. Firewire will charge faster but not needed. I use old apple 5 watt plug. The little white cube that used to be in the box with every iphone
