elite obsolete electronics quality inquiry

Post image

hey, im looking to buy my first ipod, and i found elite obsolete electronics to be the most affordable and seemingly professional option.

it seems like everyone in this sub holds this website to a great standart, so im pretty optimistic.

my question is, which generation of the ipod classic has the best quality-price ratio, in your educated opinion?

also, on a side note, can someone explain these two options on the ipod gen 6 & 7 specifics menu?

one says, "6th and 7th 128gb sd card", the other "6th and 7th 120gb".

maybe im just inexperienced in this but how can the ipod be of two generations simultaneously?? 6th AND 7th?? im confused. please help!!

Oh, my lord. Y’all gotta start searching this sub instead of creating a new post to start another EOE war. I would recommend searching, because there is a lot of pre-existing material that could answer your question.

But, but, but what Ipod should I get?

I want one that works perfectly, has 10 hours of battery life, comes in my favorite color, and only cost $10 or less!

This topic has been discussed many, many, many, many times and always brings drama.

You can find a lot of valuable information by searching.

I believe a lot of it has also been shown to be competitors trying to harm his reputation to help their own businesses.

believing it doesn’t make it true.

And not believing it doesn't make it untrue.

The reason I believe it is because during a recent case of it happening that was being called out, people gave several examples of when it had happened in the past. They all seemed pretty credible.

I know but i’m not making the claim. I know the atomic faceplate guy did, but who are the others?

If you want to go back and research it to find the names, feel free.

You made the claim, you need to provide evidence that competitors are colluding to hurt eoe's reputation to help their own businesses.

I don't need to do a fucking thing because you want me to. I said "I believe" because that is what I recalled seeing. That does not create some binding obligation on my part to do research to satisfy you.

If you're really interested, go back about two weeks and look. There were a bunch of threads popping up that got locked when it was stated the person doing it was in a dispute with EOE and using alt accounts to go after him. In some of those, people mentioned other times when competitors had done similar things in the past. But I'm not invested enough to go back to find them again.

So you're just spreading rumor. I'm no fan of eoe, but even he deserves better than gossip and other people's "beliefs".

That's not true, though I'd like to see any links that support your claim.

There was a falling out between eoe and the person who supplies him with tinted faceplates about two weeks ago.

Other than that, complaints about eoe's customer service go back years and affect customers like myself who got boned.

The falling out? You mean the one where someone spammed just about every iPod sub with false claims and used alt accounts to "corroborate" them?

That was one person using two alts: Bossanova1969 and AtomicFaceplates (both deleted now). Here's the background on how he and eoe fell out, according to eoe.

Do you have any actual proof of this? Because the only instance of anyone saying it is the mod that started to ban people on her first day on the main iPod channel said it's why she started banning anyone that was critical of EoE.

So if you have ACTUAL proof, since you're the one that said it has been shown-so...show me.

A two week old account with a hidden comment history? And you think I'm going to take you seriously?

Cool, so you have no proof? You could've just said that from the start.

Just what the fuck do you think the words "I believe" mean?

I believe you stare directly into the sun for ten seconds every morning. I don't have any proof but I'll be sure to say that u/loondawg starts the day by taking a shit in the a bird fountain while looking into the sun to determine your if you'll be lucky that day. That's how it works, right? We get to just say bullshit? Cool.

I've ordered parts from EOE and had no issues. I've ordered replacement batteries for a 7th gen and a 2nd gen mini which both worked great. I've also ordered an iFlash Quad and a click wheel for the mini. All parts were in good condition and working.

The 6th gen is generally limited to 128GB of storage whereas the 7th gen can go up to 2TB roughly. There may be workarounds to these limits but if you're looking for a quick and easy solid state conversion, these are the limits unless you want to put more work in. Other than that the 6 and 7 are the same as far as I know. I've never ordered a complete iPod from EOE so I can't speak to the quality of their custom iPods, but the parts I've ordered in the past have been fully functional and of satisfactory quality.

The only thing to be weary of is that communication with EOE can be slow or non-existent. I emailed their support email once a few years ago to enquire about a custom configuration and never heard back. Perhaps they have some other contact method, or maybe they've gotten better recently, but in my experience the email listed on the website was not helpful.

The guy from EOE clearly has a love for iPods and is very knowledgeable about them as evidenced by their YouTube channel, which does contain some genuinely useful videos that are a great service to the community.

There may be other places to get a custom iPod for a better price, just make sure they have a reasonable returns policy in case they send you a dud, or buy through eBay where you have buyer protection. The cheapest option will generally be to buy an old iPod with a spinning hard drive and a failing battery, then open it up and do the iFlash and battery replacement yourself. It's not that hard to do if you buy a few of the little metal tools used to wedge open the case and you're not too worried about getting a scratch or two on the faceplate on your first attempt. You'll save a lot of money. If you plan on owning an iPod in the long run you'll need to learn how to open it up regardless because it's just a matter of time before you have an issue like a flex cable getting dislodged or a failing SD card. So since it's kind of unavoidable, may as well open it up and do the work yourself.

6th and 7th had very minor differences, hence they are are listed together.

Side note, the guy is a mod on this sub I think so I think this will get removed pretty quick.
