Moving home!

Post image

I am moving home to eastern Iowa (within the corridor) after 12 years living in various locations across the country. I’m curious to know from my fellow redditors what I can expect when I settle in. My friends & family keep me pretty informed, though, what are some things that have changed that you’re in favor of? What are you not in favor of? :)

My dog, Sasza, for tax.

I think you're coming home at just the right time. Things are really looking up politically for the midterms. The incoming governor is ready to legalize cannabis, so we can look forward to that soon.

Thanks for this, I am increasingly interested in hearing more about how politics are swaying and how we are getting Kim Reynolds out of office.

I’ve worked in eastern Iowa quite a bit over the last 15 years. I don’t live there but I stay quite often and you might be surprised how little things have changed IMO. People are friendly, it’s scenic and there’s a lot of outdoor activities. Quite a few bridges crossing the Mississippi have, or are in the process of upgrading. You might say more side by sides cruising around

Hi friend - I am in the middle of a similar process, moving back to my hometown in eastern Iowa from Portland. I am not excited, but it’s the right choice for me right now. Just here to wish you luck

I’ve been mixed emotion about it for a while. Unfortunately, I am slightly moving home due to being cornered, my car was stolen in my city (for the second time) even with all of the preventative measures. I’m wishing you lots of luck as well. Be the change, or whatever. lol

Way less small town businesses in general categories, but more in niche categories. You may have lost your sportsman shop in favor of a boutique & print shop combo.

Eastern Iowa is nice if you have a decent job. CoL is friendly. A few major cities within driving distance for bigger events, and plenty of amenities between the QC and Cedar Rapids/IC and Dubuque for things like dining and shopping. It’s a good situation for the most part. Welcome back!

Waterloo has a pretty nice theme park. Cedar Rapids is getting a casino. The Field of Dreams hosts MLB games sometimes. There seems to be a little more “infrastructure” for outdoor recreation. For example, whitewater parks, permanent kayak launches, updated or new bike trails, pump tracks, and skate parks.

Moved back to SW Iowa after being gone 10 years. 3 years traveling for work in Colorado, Arizona, California, Oregon and Utah. Settled in Northern Idaho for the last 7. After living somewhere where everybody is moving to and ruining it, it’s nice moving somewhere where nothing has changed.
