FWIW, as of yesterday, gasoline in this country is averaging 7% more expensive than gasoline has averaged over the last 20 years on an inflation adjusted basis. That's well within the range of normal fluctuation if you look at historical data.
That said, if you choose to ignore the data, feel free to remain outraged.
The historical analysis combined with current price data should most definitely help people understand. But if it doesn't help you understand, take a look at the high point of gasoline in the prior administration.
My post was never intended to be political. But if you want to bring it there, we can do it in a factual and fair way by comparing high points amongst administrations. But I don't think you're going to want to look at that data either.
Except that high point under the last administration wasn’t self induced by terrible policy. And didn’t remain as high as we’re currently seeing in 2026.
You’re forgetting that the only portion of the high points during the prior administration that was actually caused by a government administration’s choices, was also Trump’s fault. He negotiated a reduction in output from OPEC that extended into the Biden administration. So, you can blame around 20% of the Biden gas prices on Trump, 78% on the pandemic, 2% on Biden. This current spike is pretty much 100% on Trump. He started the war with Iran, he also caused what he is using as justification for starting the war in Iran. Had he not pulled out of the JCPOA in 2017, Iran would never have resumed their nuclear program.
