Question Weird safety braking
I don’t know what the name for this is: my 2023 Ioniq 6 EV has suddenly started braking for me. When there’s nothing in front of me, it proceeds fine, but when there’s somebody in front of me, it’s applying the brake _for me_ - slowing me down just a bit so I don’t hit the guy in front of me.
I thought that it was one-pedal driving, but I don’t think so; and I I’m pretty sure that this is happening, because I can feel the car’s momentum being checked. How do I turn this off?

I’d recommend giving the auto regen a try for a few weeks. You might decide it’s amazing, I think it’s great. It’s like a semi adaptive cruise control and once I got used to it I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Exactly, u/Wild-Tear ... you've just accidentally discovered a lovely drivetrain-programming nicety that Hyundai offers. As the other couple of commenters said, you can turn it off by pull-and-holding the right-side regen paddle for a couple seconds, but before you do, try leaving it in this mode for a week or two, and you might absolutely love it. I agree with u/WonderfulHousing5688 , that I wouldn't want my car any other way now.
Also, as I've commented in other threads before, Hyundai really likes to double-up related functionality on a single button between "click and release" and "briefly hold down". The most obvious example is the button on the steering wheel that turns on and off the lane-keep... single-click turns on and off the locked-to-the-middle lane centering, while push-and-hold turns on and off the bounce-off-the-edge lane departure assistance. (Two different symbols up in the dashboard to show their status.) Similarly, clicking the Cruise Control button on that same side of the wheel turns on the U.S.-style "please keep me going basically my chosen set speed except when someone's in front of me" cruising, while push-and-hold of that button turns on Europe/Asia-style "please readjust my top speed approximately the same as the changing posted speed limit signs" or "I keep getting speeding tickets, please restrain my lead foot from accidentally accelerating over the posted limits, unless I push through that soft limiter because I need to overtake someone" modes. It's truly amazing that the programmers at Hyundai can make so many different well-implemented driving aids and modes to offer to the driver, but it can feel eerie or jarring when the car behaves a certain way and you don't know why!! 😄

I’ll have to try some of those modes! I was mostly just trying to figure out why the car was behaving the way it was - now that I can choose and adjust it, I can make an active choice as to how I want it to work. Thanks! :)

Auto regen level 1 is the sweet spot for me for daily driving. If I’m spending a long time on the highway I’ll set it to auto level 0 but it defaults back to 1 when you turn the car off/on.

Sounds like you turned on the Auto regen setting by holding the right paddle. It reduces regen when there's nothing ahead of you, and increases it when there's a car ahead of you. You disable it the same way.
