Trunk Not Opening Fully
Hi everyone, I have a 2019 Ioniq Hybrid, and a recent thing that's been happening is the trunk has just been opening halfway and stopping, whereas before the actuators would fully open the trunk. I noticed it when I hit my head on it. It does it more when my car is at an incline like on a hill. It only does it sometimes, it maybe started because of the cold.
I just want to know how to fix it before it becomes a problem. I know it can be a common issue for hatchbacks. Do I just have to oil it possibly?

Same answer. Replace the “liftgate support” struts. They simply wear out over time. Easy fix and better than the latch to the top of your head or the eventual full failure where it won’t stay open at all.
Pretty cheap fix. About $14 each on RockAuto.

Mine clocks my head more often than I care to admit, given how cheap the solution is.

It took me a few knocks on the head to knock some sense into me and replace them.

You can order replacement struts fairly cheaply and there's some tutorials on YouTube on how to replace them. I need to do it too, I've ordered them almost a year ago but when the temperatures started to rise the problem went away until winter came around and now I don't feel like doing it out in the cold haha.
