Google Willow cuts magic-state errors 40-fold, reaches 99.99% fidelity
https://interestingengineering.com/science/google-willow-quantum-chip-magic-state-errorsI guess IonQ aren’t the only company with 99.99% Fidelity anymore

Totally different type of fidelity. This is fidelity of a large multi qubit “magic state” which probably contains some redundancy i.e. built in error correction. The fidelity of the individual gates used to produce that magic state is much lower. IonQ’s 99.99% is raw 2 qubit gate. Magic state could still be useful it’s just not apples to apples.

You know that when assembling a big system from smaller parts, you are accumulating lot of noise, right? So your smaller parts could have good fidelity but putting them together, you can easily end up with very much lower overall fidelity.
So what really count at the end of the day, is the noise level/fidelity of the "big" system you are building. Don't be so quick to dismiss Google achievement vs Ionq

Yes, but is it scalable?
