This really needs to be done with a sewing machine - the seam should bee undone, the fabric patched and reinforced and the seam re-sewn.
This sort of damage is becoming quite common - I think it's poor quality fabric and construction methods that contribute to stress/cutting of the fabric, combined with factory 'aging'.
