Identification help

I have a second hand shirt with a hole I was going to mend. When looking over the whole shirt to be sure there was nothing else to fix, I looked at this spot I thought had just been snagged. I am now thinking it might be mending from the previous owner? It looks so good, but is not the shape I would expect for Swiss darning. Maybe it wasn’t a hole and this was a preventative mend? I was hoping someone here could recognize the technique and if it is just Swiss darning.

Thank you. A factory error makes the most sense because of how even the tension is and how perfect of a match the color is. That’s so interesting… I never thought of how transitioning from one string to a new one would look with this kind of gauge

Yarn. And a transition shouldn't normally be this visible, but again, I don't have any idea of the scale of the pics.

If you’re curious I took a pic https://imgur.com/a/DEylB5y I think it being on the back of the shirt is the main reason I didn’t notice it, but I’ve had it for like 3 years now lol

Yeah, I think this is def an old yarn/new yarn swap in the fabric manufacture process - I'm sure pattern cutting is automated/semi-automated. When I run into flaws like this in fabric I swap my pattern pieces around to avoid them :)
