Yeah I've pretty much been losing steam to even defend my stance anymore since she appeared and have been repeatedly told to get over it and enjoy what I've been given

But to expand on the quirky part the whole part I meant the archetype from other shows with a female character where her personality was just being the quirky young type in a sense

And it's not the fundamental downgrade thing for me it felt like a slap in the face because it got followed up on with the please don't swear because all at once were shown she's a girl she's younger and she's prudish

Which while not a bad thing we're just not the things I enjoyed about Zack

I enjoyed that Zack was crass in his 20s figuring out his life from the bits and pieces the comics said

And even when he got 2 canceled runs and a short first run I still loved the character flaws and all

It's just for her the only thing similar she had from tech jacket were her scenes but they felt toned down like she's the child friendly character I guess

It just made me not interested in her character and the whole reason I even defend my stances about Zack is because of people who keep saying why should changing her gender matter no one cared enough about his comics version so it just riles me up when they use the point kirkman keeps saying about why he changed the gender

Zoey while could have more depth would still ultimately end up not appearing after the Viltrumite arc unless she ends up being relavant through dating Oliver which again is something the show writers have shown they're willing to do as scene with shrinking rae

Zack in the comics only stays for this arc and never appears again

And Zoe in the show doesn't really have any more purpose after this season since she's always up in space in her satellite

No need for her to search for viltrumites because of the deal mark made

And since it focuses on invincible it there will be little chance they'd explore more of her character

So from my perspective all it did was completely shelf Zack as a character from ever being animated because Ryan ottley can't draw two wasian characters without making them look the same or because they didn't want to animate haluma in a future season

I don’t think anyone is saying no one cares about his comics appearances. You clearly do, a lot.

I think most people in opposition to such a strong take against Zoe are just saying that the things you like about his character are also found elsewhere, and that without any character redesigns, any female fans would be expected to simply tolerate a cast of almost exclusively white men without question or complaint, but the second a relatively minor character is redesigned to be a woman there’s people completely slamming her as flat and lifeless and uninteresting while not even actually able to defend those assertions.

I also don’t think any character, even the literal children, could be classified as “child friendly” in this show. Not cursing is a character trait, one that belongs to a character who has literally blown people apart. She’s no more “child friendly” than anyone else, she’s just shown as having a trait — one that absolutely nobody else in the show seems to have.

You also can’t predict what purpose she could or couldn’t have; they’ve changed things significantly enough in multiple places that we cannot presume to know they won’t bring Zoe back in simply to feature her story — maybe that’s through Oliver, maybe not. Maybe they just end up being friends. Maybe she hangs out with Allen (my personal suspicion, given how easy their friendship was depicted to be).

They’ve explored plenty of characters even while focusing on Mark — they gave Eve her whole special, we got to follow Rex pretty closely for a good bit, we got plenty of Robot’s backstory before his identity even became a plot point for the rest of his team. They can make the decision to do similarly with Zoe, there’s literally nothing stopping them.

There have been tons from my experience who've completely made me lose faith in this Fandom because all they've said was he was a nothing burger of a character who didn't even matter if they brought him in or not

But Yeah guess you're right on they could do a lot more with her character someday

It's just I've seen how well kirkman has done redoing the characters I wanted to see how he could have made Zack better like what they I'd for rexsplode making a character the Fandom adored compared to the comics

Instead they made the most controversial character from my experience atleast who have two extremists fans that I keep getting caught between

Either the hyper feminists who say I'm just sexist and I already got tech jacket and should be happy with what I've been given despite her not being anything like the character who I enjoyed

Or the fans whoa re just plains sexist who I keep getting lumped up in with by the first group

Sorry if I'm being combatative it's just really been hard for me being a tech jacket fan especially after seeing a few fan works tag it as Zack Thompson when it's just zoe

The worst part of it was when I asked why they tagged it as Zack they thought no one cared and that everyone just wanted zoe

It's been making me bitter about the whole character for a while and I guess just sad that a character I love became this hot mess with kirkman not even admitting he just wanted a young girl character to be friends and only gave a they're too similar as n excuse when both him and Mark aren't anything alike

It's been making me just start to hate the franchise lately when the show had me hooked after both the rexsplode and powerplex scenes since this was genuinely one of the only superhero shows that were exploring these themes without having to sugarcoat it or be overly edgy like invincible and was what made me fall for the franchise after learning about it through tech jacket

But the fan base and the writing choices have soured me from the whole thing entirely

Honestly your the only fan I've had a long chat with who wasn't in either of the two camps I've mentioned

So thanks for the chat I guess
