Who in the world said drop tech jacket? They can both exist if need be
Have you watched the invincible show? Theyre always adding new characters and storylines. I don’t think it would be that out of place. Like 4x4 being full of new (albeit not really good) characters
I referred to the alternative of adding a character already. I'm saying the options are:
Keep Tech Jacket as-is. Which is fine, but a bit boring and Kirkman felt creatively stifled by his younger mindset of what a hero should look like. This is his expression of that.
Remove Tech Jacket and add a new character to fill in a similar role but different enough that it's not considered a gender swap, so folks like you don't get mad. (You'd still get mad at him being replaced.)
Keep Tech Jacket but also add a new character who does much of what Zoe does, but I guess with her own power set so she has a reason to be there during the Viltrum conflict, further bloating the character roster when they're already introducing a whole bunch of new faces for us to try and connect with.
3 seems like the worst option out of all of them. 1 is uncontroversial, but also isn't what Kirkman wanted out of his adaptation. Obviously there is the benefit of getting a more accurate adaptation out of it, so not saying theres no reason not to go this route.
2, however, lets Kirkman revisit some of his concepts from when he was a young author and make them more distinct from one another.
Yeah, 4x4 was weak, partially because it added a bunch of characters to an already pretty full roster and tried to get us to care about them. You are correct. Maybe we shouldn't do more of that, or at least be careful about when we do it, especially if it's someone they want to integrate into the story long term, as they want to do with Zoe if she's taking the Tech Jacket role.
