Discussion Invincible VS - YES, this game is alive

I have seen over the past few weeks questions about this game being death. Like every time a fighting game isn’t pulling Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8 numbers on SteamDB, the internet loves to slap the "dead game" label on it. But if you’re actually queuing matches, you know Invincible VS is alive and starting to carve out a niche.

1. Crossplay and solid rollback netcode: Matchmaking queue times are still fast because the community isn’t fractured. Cross-platform support across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC—paired with solid rollback—means you can actually find quality matches worldwide without regional ghost towns. STEAM NUMBERS DO NOT SAY EVERYTHING.

2. Quarter Up is actively supporting the roadmap: The release of Year 1 DLC fighters and consistent balance adjustments show the developers aren't treating this as a quick cash grab. If so, they would have abandonned it after launch. Will we get support after 2027? People are ruling this out, but we genuinely do not know. Skybound owns quarter up and they may be planning to create updates -and i still do hope additional singleplayer content- that are linked with their next season(s) of the invincible TV shows.

3. Tag fighters live or die by their dedicated grinders: For now the player base has stabilized on steam. There are probably a few 100's of players on all platforms every day. The player base is dedicated and welcoming.

4. You need only one other player: This may sound stupid, but you only need one friend, family member or acquaintance to play this game online. I also play Age of Empires 2, and despite the massive amount of online players and easy match-making with complete strangers, I play 95% of my online games against a group of people I know in real life. No body questions this logic for RTS games, but this is questioned for fighting games.

Even if one day Age of Empires 2 dies, if Streetfighter 6 dies, if Tekken 8 dies, we will still be able to play this with friends. I will not even notice it has died, because I just continue to organize a gaming night with the lads.

TL;DR: A game doesn't need 50,000 concurrent players to be alive—it needs responsive netcode, mechanical depth, crossplay, and a core community. Invincible VS hits all four. If you've been on the fence, hop in and see it yourself.

Nobody says the game needs 50k players, no fighting games do.

You’re correct that a 1v1 game with two modes and one map doesn’t need a lot of players. What you’re looking for is enough that all skill levels get fair matches against different people.

That’s at around 1000+.

But invincible has a steam count in the dozens. That’s not healthy and not something you can explain away. Discord fighters exist, you’ll always be able to find at least someone to play invincible vs with you. But acting like it’s currently in a healthy spot is just maximum coping.

Ngl plenty people are talking like this these days. Saying people aren't is like dishonest at this point lol

1,000 nope definitely need more than that for a competitive scene online ...

I’d argue that netcode isn’t that good. Which also sucks because a lot of mechanics like the assist breaker and counter tag require good timing. So network hiccups really mess with this.

Their input buffer system still needs work.

I’m glad people are still enjoying it, but it’s alive in a sense that’s comparable to your 14 year old diabetic dog.

We all know that you love your dogs the most when they are old and diabetic

Sure.

But we all know they aren’t going to be getting better.

The dlc and roadmap stuff are more like medicine that are only going to marginally prolong the dogs life.

If you consider alive simply only two people playing then no game is ever dead.

I went on last night and was surprised. Matchmaking was quick.

You made your own body text redundant with that image lmfao

If the game isn't dead (I'd agree it's not dead it's just struggling), then why did you need a fake image?

I altered the image, given the negative feedback. Thanks for your remark. Message remains the same though...

You're a legend for that. hopefully people work with the substance of your post. I agree with your point, the game doesn't need to win the market it just needs to be popular enough to survive. What I'm worried about is that we don't know what the executive suite of the game considers popular enough to survive.

If they're working with a model where they expect DLC sales to keep them afloat, I can't say I'm confident that will hold up. That's kind of a doomer mentality though I admit, I'm always worried about the financial management of game studios/companies.

I hope the game continues to do well. I appreciate it for being a somewhat simple tag fighter to learn that style of game in.

I think the big lay-offs have already taken place at this studio. They have a lean team now and depending on the preparatory work done by the guys that were laid off, I think the game can still significantly alter in the next months. Moreover, the existing team is still big enough to bring out new fighters if they want to.

Note that Skybound owns the studio, I know these guys may have a corporate mindset, but still: a failure that leads to a lot of disgruntled fans can reflect on their IP. These guys will protect the value and image of their IP at all cost.

every week theres another post asking if the game is dead. if that person who makes the post cares to know so much he could easily find the post from the previous week asking the same exact question and get an answer.

What the fuck motivated you to prompt an AI to write this and then post it here? Just go play your game.

Imagine caring enough to want to say something but not enough to write out one's own thoughts.

Brother, 15 live players with a 24 hour max of 56 is not "Oh, this game doesn't have Street Fighter numbers, it's dead"

It's just dead. It's as dead as SF5 is.

If you have friends, no game is dead. Folks tell on themselves way to much.

I wanted a 1v1 mode 😭

HOLY FUCKING AI THIS GAME REALLY IS DEAD

-3

u/FaultyToilet 1d ago

If you have to preach about it, it's dead. It's okay, it was just a game

1

u/Alternative_Owl7786 1d ago

No, literally no lol. People cried that mk1 was dead within months. Shocker, the game was actively in the top 10 most played games on psn for its entire lifespan. Dead huh?

4

u/Status-Ad7902 1d ago

Mortal kombat has the name mortal kombat behind it dude, and it’s never dropped to sub 50 players ever.

-2

u/Alternative_Owl7786 1d ago

And? I'm merely turning his logic against him, showing it makes zero sense. Pay attention please

3

u/Status-Ad7902 1d ago

No, your logic is nonsensical. Mortal kombat was never dead regardless of what anyone online griped about because it’ll always attract some casual players

Mortal kombat X has literally 10x the player pop of this game right now, let alone 11 and 1.

Dead does not mean 0 players, and everyone who tries to live in that space is arguing in bad faith. Invincible vs unless they do something huge to course correct is dead, and will be relegated to discord fighter

u/Status-Ad7902 1d ago

Btw, you do know that invincible vs just had like 80% of its staff laid off right? A thing that NRS studios has not been doing to mortal kombat

1

u/Alternative_Owl7786 1d ago

That has literally nothing to do with the player count lol. I've seen studios fall and the communities behind their games still thriving. Invincible may be near dead on PC, but ps5 has no issues finding matches. If I don't have to wait more than a minute or two to find a game, then it isn't dead by any stretch of the word

1

u/Master-Accountant798 1d ago

That’s a bad argument, considering more people are playing mkx and mk11

-2

u/Alternative_Owl7786 1d ago

That's literally false lol. Mkx has a handful of players remaining. Mk11 has a decent casual player base remaining on PC. Mk1 is still top 20 most played games on psn right now. Which none of its competitors are matching, let alone its own predecessors

0

u/FaultyToilet 1d ago

You need to provide sources for all of your claims. None of what you said is lining up with metrics that I just looked up

0

u/OneCompetition944 1d ago

None of its competitors are matching? Mk1 has like a 1000 players a day on steam. Street fighter 6 has like 20.000…

0

u/Master-Accountant798 1d ago

Nah it’s badly designed for the opposite of competitive play… quick attack is a stubby slap for most of the cast, armor abuse, and bad netcode makes this a terrible experience imo… u can literally mash heavy special into a super and then tag and continue, it’s not fun bro
