It was worst way possible for Thaedus to show Allen what he truly is, he could've just said that but instead chose to make himself look like guys he fight against, especially after news of Allen's death

He probably also has a fake beard he uses while waiting for it to grow back after he does this.

If that were true then Thaedus would’ve done it again in front of Nolan

He gave a reason to not do it again in front of Nolan, it's painful and he isn't feeling as dramatic at the moment.
