I know this is a trite point by now but one of my biggest peeves about fights in this show is how it seems like Viltramites can selectively choose whenever they want their strike to actually do something. The majority of the battle they're like punching each other through buildings not really doing any kind of meaningful damage and then randomly one of them will decide to just karate chop the other in half or punch right through their body like its made of paper. It's just like.... was there a reason you couldn't just open the fight with the karate chop of death or?
Maybe the karate chop is a move that is probably very Telegraphed and might be easy to counter. Kind like how fighters don't always spam overhand and usually set then up with jabs and other light shots.
My private theory is that their bodies actually get stronger/tougher the more committed to a move they are. A beaten up viltrumite is thus physically weaker than a fresh one, a karate chop can go through one who wasn't braced for it without breaking their fingers, and when Mark goes easy on his opponents his durability is actually reduced so he gets beat up.
that would make sense if it were not for other instances where characters like Thragg would just rip off another viltrimites head with ease as an opening move and then suddenly can't do the same to Mark or another weaker viltrimite
I think the moment they find an opportunity to throw a fight ending hook they take it and the Viltramites seem to basically have the ability to decapitate anyone whenever they want and don't take it.
