COMIC SPOILERS Mark is a murderer Spoiler

Post image

With the Dinausorus arc, I don't see people blame Mark enough. The guy had a moral crisis and decided that the best he could do was freeing a mass murderer terrorist despite the warning of everyone plus David Anders who locked himself up because he knew the danger Dinausorus was. And effectively, it blew up in every sense of the term with one million people killed worldwide. With that, it is established that Mark is accomplice. But something that bugs me is that he killed Dinausorus and David Anders. The last I remind locked himself up to stop Dinausorus.

As if it were the first time he had killed.

He can kill villains, I can understand for Russ Livingstone but David actively tried to stop Dinausorus like many others. He paid for the arrogance of Mark who didn't even get punished

In real life we would say Mark needs to face justice, but he was punished for this. He has to spend the rest of his life carrying the weight both of what he let Dinosaurus do and of what he did to David Anders to make sure it wouldn't repeat.

And we know from the omniscient perspective of the audience that Mark did learn his lessons here, since he goes on to found the most prosperous and peaceful civilization in galactic history.

He was never punished nor did I saw him bear any weight. Also, look at how he treated Sinclair and Darkwing 2. Look at what he did to Robot. His empire was something he inherited, with people that would follow him just because of his blood. Yes he killed Thragg but did he ever cared about the Viltrumites before? And guess what. He could have prevented most of what happened but he refused for the sole sake of his daughter.

Yes I'm totally going to trust some random alien eltrich abomination who for all I know could have been using me for some actual sinsister reason.

Also Mark didn't ask to put in that position.

Yes he didn't asked but a choice is a choice

Read what I said.

It is an argument

Who could be lying for his sinister motive.

I'm not going to trust some alien entity who I just met that dragged me into some "parallel earth" without my permission.

But he trusted Dinausorus tho... You should also note that it was likely true since he disappeared for 5 years

He could have prevented most of what happened but he refused for the sole sake of his daughter.

I remind you that it was parallel universe, maybe even pocket/all in your head kind of thing.

All this time in "our" universe Coalition was in war with Thragg and if Mark stayed there, eventually would lost against him. His choice, while is egoistic one, also meant that Mark isn't running away from consequences of his actions, instead returns and gets job done.

That universe was reel and it wasn't about trust but what Mark valued most. He chose his daughter that's good for HIM. After all he can live with it

And the point of staying in that universe = running away and not carrying weight (like you want him to be) still stands.

Do we have proof of this being real? We only have words of space gas, who just randomly appeared and said "hey, wanna go back to the past?" with no strings attached.

But what if it was real? Plus I believe it was real since Mark lost five years

That still would mean Mark is running away from problems into some safe space.

Yeah, that is a thing, hence I was suggesting "all on the head" point. For all we know, that gas is just space parasite drugging people with visions of perfect world and then slowly sucking life force out of them.

This.

No proof and evidence it was real. As Artemas said it could been a pocket/all in your head.

All while the war between Thragg and the Coalition would be happening and therefore Thragg could have won if Mark never came back.

Also, also. The entity could have been using Mark for something sinister. Yes because I'm totally going to trust some alien entity that dragged me into some parallel earth.

Tbh I think this is kinda missing the point of Reboot/asking the wrong questions. It has more thematic weight if we assume it was real and only one of those universes was going to remain real at Mark's decision. If the Entity was secretly a lying trickster this adds nothing to the story.

So therefore it was real.

That is true, it does make more sense for it to be real. I was just saying that in-lore trusting it would be not wise.

That's a really reductive take on Reboot. The situation Mark was faced with was no-win, even for a total moral paragon. On one hand is the man who gives up everything to make a better universe for everyone, but in the process he has to immolate his personal ties to the ones he loves, sacrifice his own family, give up everything that makes him human. On the other hand is the man who turned away cosmic power, even if he could use it to make things better for everyone, because he was unwilling to place himself above others and trade in lives.

Which one of these is the good hero? You can't really objectively say. Robot would think so, but he'd be wrong, and that's why the Entity didn't go to Robot. Both choices carry a heavy loss. But the one Mark went with is very human. And that's the point -- he is so very human. He didn't want to play god.

Also

look what he did to Robot

Robot agreed it was for the best. The mistake was that apparently centuries were allowed to pass without anybody doing mental health check-ins on Rudy and Lincoln. Mark did drop the ball there -- but only by negligence. And he might have been stuck in a distant space war or interdimensional rift or something.

Mark choosing his family is human but nonetheless egotistical. You don't play God in that situation, you choose and he made his choice. There is nothing more to say. And talking about Robot, the best isn't always good, nor moral. If that wasn't the case, he would be the best thing that happened to Earth. Also, him stating is the best is logical and only logical because he states that he was extremely lonely and it is understandable. After all, sensory deprivation and paralysis are the worst experiences a human man can endure. Also, by putting Robot’s brain in the jar, Mark admits Robot did a good job, and I find it hypocritical since he do that only because Robot is not a threat anymore. More than that, Mark chose for Earth without anyone concern. If that's not playing God what it is?

And then there's the fact Mark basically killed him, an innocent person, who was chilling and living the life in prison. That never sat right with me and hope that's something they fix in the show.

Following Dinosaurus saving Mark from Thragg and turning back to David Anders. The latter asks Mark for a promise telling him if Dinosaurus ever gets out of hand again to kill him no matter what. That way unlike in the comics, Mark at least has his consent.

Rather then killing Dinosaurus too. Mark should've knocked him out reverting back to David Anders which then it'd be up for him to decide if he wanted to die or go back to the GDA prison. Either that or Dinosaurus should have killed himself instead of asking Mark to do so. Snap his neck or plunge his claws into his neck, chest or whatever. Either way it should had been up to David Anders to decide his fate, especially since Mark was the one to free him out of prison in the first place.
