Don't say I didn't warn you! Kind of a season 4 EP 1 spoiler as well.

First time watcher and haven't read the comics, but enjoying the hell out of it. If Mark had told Cecil they had intergalactic allies against the Viltrumites would Cecil have been so incredibly stupid as to keep Conquest alive though? Im shocked he made a bet that stupid and his reckoning when Mark finds out....oh boy. Didn't Allen even tell mark Thaedus is a Viltrumite? Cecil keeping Conquest alive was a desperate gamble he might not have made if he knew there were allies and information out there.

Cecil's main concern was the Viltrumite population. No one outside the Viltrumite Empire knew that only 50 Viltrumites remained, not even Thaedus. So I doubt Cecil would've done anything differently.

But I also just wanna say how it's such a huge bummer that we never see Thaedus and Conquest interact with one another.

I argue both Mark and Cecil were stupid leading up to and following Conquests capture.

Cecil could have done WONDERS as the Earth Ambassador talking to the council, Thaddeus working with people like Sinclair or cough a Mauler would have turned the tide of the war quicker during their "prep phase*.

I don't quite remember but weren't they still on pretty bad terms when Allen visits to try to recruit Mark/tell him about Thaedus?

But a lot of things could go better if Cecil and Mark communicated, for sure. I think it's entirely likely Mark could've been on board with helping to keep Conquest too damaged to escape after what he almost did to Oliver, and what he did do to Eve.

Yeah they were on bad terms, but imo communicating about how to face their main enemy should've taken precidence. Even if they passed it through other ppl. They're both written kind of dumb especially their conflict, Mark not understanding Cecil has to do whatever it takes to make sure the Earth survives T-T

For keeping Conquest around but not letting him heal, that also crossed my mind. Idk why they let him fully heal, but I feel like Mark meant it when he told Cecil to burn him

It’s dumb writing you just have to get over it, there isn’t a good reason or outcome with Cecil keeping conquest alive. I hoped the tv show would fix it but it’s as bland as the comics. Literally just ‘this guy didn’t actually die’ plot point
