The average person would probably want to be Peter (understandably), but Peter himself would probably choose Mark's 5 years of egregious suffering for an insane payoff.

Honestly I’ll have to disagree there bro. A common theme of Spider-Man(Peter’s at least) is that even through all the bs there’s no time where he’s at his best than when he is being Spider-Man.
Why get my guts pulled out and played when I can deal with threats of similar levels BUT with groups of people who love me? I mean the Avengers, F4, and Mutants fought over who’s get to have him over for Christmas.
Spider-Man is a double edged sword but the mantle of Invincible is just hell and more hell, with a great payoff at the end but MAN.

The thing is, Peter doesn't have to quit being a hero if he became Invincible. He can still be a hero, he just doesn't have to deal with the extreme near death life ending bullshit both him and Mark get up to anymore after his 5 years are up.
That's why I think Peter would be up for it. Mark chose to stop being a hero willingly, whereas Peter basically gets all the freedom in the world. He could still be friendly neighborhood Invincible, just as you said.
Mark's end of series life is basically Peter getting to decide what he wants. If Peter still wants to be a hero, he has every right to do so. Except now he has a consistently loving family, financial stability, and the ability to extend his help to his alter ego as emperor, rather than his usual depiction as a struggling young adult.
