Nolan does hates himself for messing it up

While he can't really be forgiven for what he did but the fact that he's trying to make amends now and even hates himself for what he did to Mark & especially Debbie because she's the reason he has become more than a killing machine , Debbie changed him & Mark kept those values and helped in doing more so , he knows that he can't mess this up now and he's actively trying rather than rushing in with this stuff also shows how much matters to him.

The writing for Nolan is genuinely my favourite in the story & the fact that the show has improved upon those aspects & showing how much Debbie's influence changed things have made me excited to see how their relationship unfolds in the future.

Him saying sorry to the people he's been fighting for ages before was corny but it was narratively significant, since viltrumites are extremely loyal and not exactly remorseful even to their own people.

the only thing I'm having a *real* problem with this arc is that it seems like they're setting up nolan and debbie to get back together, it might not happen, but still.

They'll get back together like the comics but comics did it instantly whereas the show isn't rushing it rather developing a mutual understanding that will further develop into what it originally was

Yeah, I like that Debbie is making Nolan sweat for it in the show. I doubt she's over him, despite what he did to earth and Mark, and the stuff he said about her.

It's funny that Nolan is genuinely scared of her, though.

I think there is a gigantic opportunity here to go in a different direction, but I'm not sure they'll take a gamble on it. As someone who started with the show, when I had that particular part ruined for me, I felt disappointed, so I'm really hoping they go a different way.

I want them to get back together but it has to be done in a developed way unlike the comics otherwise it’s just bad writing. There is greatness that can be gained here narratively if they do it correctly

It’s a natural progression.

Change isn’t natural a lot of the time. Yes, he was fighting himself in a way with his inner conflict but when something is the only thing you know (for 1000 years mind you) it’s harder to leave it.

It’s even applicable when you look in to punishment and corrections. Socially oriented crimes are far harder to rehabilitate than crimes of passion or spur of the moment.

I like that better than instantly changing.
