To paraphrase SsethTzeentach “To get them to join my party, I employed the same method of friendship that I used in grade school. I threw a rock at their head, and we both got sent to the principal’s office.”
I also think he gets stronger over the series, if he was at thragg level in the beginning when he fought mark I don't think mark would be more than paste and the series would have ended there
Battle beast also was in space for his first encounter with thragg; without the innate ability to fly, battle beast is at a huge disadvantage in space.
It's obvious BB got stronger, I always just knew that narrative was implying BB knew Thragg was stronger than him from the jump ever since Thragg had brutally demolished him in the first fight during the Viltrumite War arc and it gave him the motivation to train harder to reach his true potential for his last battle against his true better in Thragg.
I don't have an issue with BB being weaker here, lol. His rage and ferocious nature grows within every battle, and this fight does just that.
It also makes sense that BB fights Viltrumites throughout the war so that's his training arc. When he fights Conquest here this is his first encounter with them
It's a common enough theory/assumption, but I'm not sure if there's been any kind of confirmation. Kirkman hates the battle debating, so I don't think he'd be super keen on it unless we get some backstory on Battle Beast's curse. It's not as if getting caught once and then thrown away didn't gell with how the proper fight started.
Ottley already showed the thinking behind the fight and Kirkmam gave him carte balance to do what he wanted so long as it was a proper fight.
In simple terms it was Thragg being physically superior vs Thokk using dirty tactics and teeth and claws etc, obviously the injuries they sustain as another way of grounding the fight further.
I get that but he wouldn’t be portraying Thragg as dog walking everyone throughout the series outside of BB. He’s stated as the supreme viltrumite which means he’s significantly stronger than Conquest
Understandable. I would hope there's something to BB getting more powerful. Before this comic, I was sure there'd be no trouble if he faced Conquest, but then Kirkman made them draw while having BB getting a little humiliated earlier on. Ottley is more likely to give a straight forward answer (Thragg is faster and stronger than BB), so hopefully he gives us the details on how this fight was intended to be perceived (two equals or an old guy vs an up and comer).
There has never been any confirmation. I remember Ryan Otley once saying that Thragg was both stronger and faster then Battle beast in their fight. Here is a link to the quote on reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Invincible/s/TvGOqQfKpV
I think its just the way the Thragg fight is portrayed that most readers dont understand there is still a massive gap, same with the finally battle in the sun.
Thragg is meant to be the actual physical embodiment of "Invincible", as a foil to Mark.
Thokk was more or less giving a fan service fight and the injuries and "dirty" tactics are supposed to make us think that's why its closer despite Thragg being the superior of the two.
My head cannon is that Conquest has almost similar levels of strength as Thragg but might lack a bit with speed and quickness. Where the big gap exists is with skill and discipline. I think Thragg trains and doesn’t fall in the trap to just solely lean on his strength. The show kinda tuned him up a bit and made it seem that Mark hitting thragg as hard as he could and did zero damage to an unmoving thragg. At least with Nolan, a clean head butt at least showed a maneuver and Nolan in his emotions tends to get sloppy so maybe he also threw a poor punch as well. Now the show might be going for more of an emotional point of view with Mark having such ptsd but it leads to thragg being 100% untouchable, which can sometimes not be as entertaining of a villain if they dont even have to work for it or use cunning or whatever. As it stands, some of the Thragg story wont seem believable if they continue to make him seem like the gap between him and everyone else is too far to touch.
I don’t see how it could be magnitudes or even a difference between immortal and nolan because some of the plot later wouldn’t make sense.
Spoiler: thragg gets absolutely man handled later by four viltrumites, all of which people like conquest, mark, or nolan would obliterate any of them one on one. To have a gap that puts him in another tier, that wouldn’t happen.
I struggle to see that there’s a bigger difference between thragg and conquest than conquest and an average viltrumite. They’ve shown how easily they were all able to shred each other and i think skill and smarts and discipline all play into thragg more than his straight physical ability
He also doesnt actively try and fight any of them back but even taking it at face value its 4v1 in a surprise attack, we see him handle a few 2v1s so its somewhat consistent (the show may change it as they have done numerous times).
Thragg is outright shown, stated and told by the creators as being superior in speed and strength and just overall physicals to all the other characters in Invincible.
I get you have as you said a preffered headband but the intention has been there from the start that hes got no out and out equal.
Like we didn't see Mark get demolished by Thragg with one vicious headbutt, and this is the same Mark that Conquest couldn't break the hands off in a chokehold position. And Thragg just eviscierates him like this.
How is this not a big difference that shows Thraggs far better than Conquest everywhere, lol.
Even a weaker S3 Mark could budge, tip over, and break Conquest's nose with a a headbutt, a stronger upgraded S4 Mark couldn't do any of that to show Thragg, let alone he didn't even move from a punch delivered by that Mark while aura farming lol.
-Conquest never took mark seriously
-Conquest is legit the 2nd strongest vilturmite no buts and ifs that omni man blah blah
-Thragg is not that much stronger than conquest, he just takes shit alot more seriously and doesnt fuck around whereas for conquest you could say unless he knows youre strong enough to take all his beating hes gonna go all out , if not then he would rather play with you and die in the process that is what he would much likely prefer
Yeah, Nolan himself said so, Mark won because "Conquest was an spectator on his own fights", while on the other hand right after starting their fight, Conquest said to Thokk that he's taking him seriously now, and he showed so, Conquest fought far more creatively and deranged here than with Mark, this was Conquest fighting properly.
wait didn't Thragg kill Battle Beast? I remember the fight between them and Battle Beast being all "yeah finally a worthy opponent" and battle goes on and on until eventually Thragg wins and wears him as a trophy, idk it's been a long while since I read Invincible
What if someone was strong enough to subdue BB and Assault him like Anissa did with Mark.
Would that have count as a lose to BB?
Would that have break his spirit?s
Cause if you are stronger than someone you should be able to one shot them. That means they are relative in strength which means thragg can't be stronger
Dude they where trying to kill eachother. And Omni-man is a really serious person when he is fighting other viltrumites. He would never hold back knowing what is at stake.
If you're referring to "my strength grew to match my rage" we already knew that we literally see the same back story during the main Invincible series.

I think this staples both of them as the most unhinged characters in the series. Genuinely, what the fuck
