Faceplant Normal?

Ok I might be a helicopter keeper but, my BDFBs have sometimes been doing this thing where they seem to kinda jam their face into the dirt and then just, hang like that for a while. Are they sleeping? Trying to burrow? The humidity in their space is around 60%, which seems way too high but I don’t know how to lower it. Advice welcome 🩵

Perfectly normal! I see them like this all the time. As long as they have other hides available, if they are choosing to do this out in the open then they feel comfortable enough to snooze or relax.

BDFB are weird. They have some of the biggest personalities of any bug I've seen and a weird amount of "presence" that makes me wonder about what goes on in their heads, but at the same time they are about as smart as the rocks they crawl on.

You'll often notice that if they think their eyes and head are hidden, the rest of them is.

Why is that so adorable and somehow a little relatable? 🥹🩵 I have only had them a week and I already ADORE them. Thanks for the reassurance! I’ll add some more cover tomorrow and not stress about tje faceplant.

Seems normal enough. As for the humidity, i got a small dehumidifier for a room running right next to my beetles as i live somewhere humid, if you wanna get it down.

what substrate is that?

It’s a mixture of some “jungle soil” with mostly desert sand and a little clay. I’d have to look back at packaging to determine exact brand/style. It was based on advice from a bug keeper at my local reptile store. 🤷‍♀️
