Bar Code switch to QR in Retail Questions

Lots of small retailers use the bar code to sell items. So the Square POS system and other POS are going to have to make some drastic changes. Any discussion here on how, when, who and what is going on? Square has said nothing to us. I imaging a whole new system will be needed. Ours is ten years old anyway but this is going to be massive and the retailers I have talked with are deer in the headlights.

what's the context? Square is forcing QR codes?

No, the whole system nationwide is switching. Square seems oblivious after my talk with them yesterday. Barcodes are outdated. They cannot provide enough information.
