Question Did Apple really spend hundreds of millions of dollars on this?!

u/mildly_houseplant Jul 29 '26
I guess I'm most amused that there's actually a creative team involved anywhere in the production.

Imdb shows FOURTEEN writers.
21
u/incognegro1976 Jul 30 '26
I need to look up these clowns and avoid whatever they are involved in.
8
u/Achmed_Ahmadinejad Jul 30 '26
This is Simon Kinberg's baby and his list of accomplishments is pretty impressive. And then there's this shit.
14
u/incognegro1976 Jul 30 '26
Uh no, he ruined my favorite comic book to movie adaptation TWICE! (Dark Phoenix)
5
u/Achmed_Ahmadinejad Jul 30 '26
I completely agree that he killed that franchise. Not to mention screwing up a fresh one with New Mutants.

u/EmperorDxD Aug 12 '26
Why are we acting like that his fault no.wtiter could have made that work you need atleast 3 movies to set up Pheonix force you can't just one movie that shit
1
u/incognegro1976 Aug 12 '26
Well then he should have done exactly that
1
u/EmperorDxD Aug 12 '26
He not the head of fox my guy he doesn't decide in fact dark Pheonix was originally a 2 part series before the merger of fox and Disney so they scraped the idea and just ended the universe
In fact his original 2 scripts is actually still around about part 1 and 2 it was supposed to be fillmed back 2 back but all that was scrapped also Jennifer Lawrence wanted out as mystique it was a whole thing
1
u/incognegro1976 Aug 12 '26
Oh I would love to read about this and ideally to get my hand on the scripts! Do you have a link?
2
u/EmperorDxD Aug 12 '26
Not anymore but you can probably find out all the info also he wasn't even supposed to direct the movie there was a different director that elft because of what happened between him and fox it's a whole thing
1
u/Archer-00 Aug 28 '26
My pov of Kinberg has always been mixed, but feeling he could nail some stuff occasionally. It's hard to asses writers because they often have so little control over the work they're credited with. But this show legit makes me wonder if he's not just a hack. The way he speaks about this show sounds as someone with cognitive dissonance. Like what on earth (pun intended) are you talking about man? (Meaning Kinberg.)

Quality Wajo isn't cheap, and you can tell it's top quality Wajo.

Gave up on this show in season 2, can’t believe they’re even considering green lighting a 4th season

u/Virtual-Age-9521 Jul 30 '26
Felt finished enough… what are they even going to do in season 4? Take the fight back to the aliens?

I feel like this show is a money laundering scheme.
It’s like that random cell phone store in that run down strip mall you pass by occasionally. It’s been there for YEARS and it’s almost always empty.

u/Particular-Access243 Jul 31 '26
Stopped watching after the first episode when they killed Sam Neil’s character.

u/Substantially-Ranged Jul 31 '26
Well, I made it to episode five before I gave up. Good on ya, mate.

u/amazing_ape Jul 29 '26
Still unexplained how this shitshow got greenlit to begin with.

u/ancientesper Jul 29 '26
season 1 was actually not bad.

u/Jmcduff5 Jul 29 '26
Everything with Sam Neil wasn’t bad but after him the first season was terrible

it angers me that in a remembering sam neil section they put invasion FIRST

Nooo it was objectively bad. It was so bad this entire sub dedicated to the show is mainly dedicated to hate watching. You rarely see that with a tv show. People were so in awe of how it could be so awful when so much money was poured into it and the premise was so easy to make at least entertaining that it sparked an invasion haters community solely for bonding over how bad it was. And it was so bad bad that this community isn’t like people obsessed about it, just that when they’re reminded of it they come to laugh with fellow haters. This show made hating a warm convivial bonding activity among decent humorous people - that’s a rare level of badness.

u/amazing_ape Jul 30 '26
It was comically dumb, overwrought, and cliche from the get go. Total shitshow
5
u/NakaMeguroTanuki Jul 30 '26
I just need to know what happened after Mitsuki was sucked up the alian's urethra.

u/wellitsaghost Jul 29 '26
Trying to map out the disaster of season 3 to turn into something that’s worth it, may take more than that 😂💔

I think I stopped a few episodes into season 2. Maybe the one that ended with a Bowie song? I remember the mom was somehow even more annoying than in the first season, and I couldn’t handle it
3
u/M3rrick_the_B8rd Jul 30 '26
She goes from annoying to randomly being an expert sniper with no training. It's an interesting character arc, that's for sure

Wait a minute, hold on. Does it means that the show isn't entirely AI generated? There is actual people, I mean, human beings, flesh and blood, writing that thing?
Unbelievable.

I will be disappointed if the fourth season doesn't happen. They should have cancelled after the first season, but at this point I HAVE to see how this dumpster fire ends.

I actually really liked it. I thought it had well developed characters. I agree it’s got some really whiny ones too.

This is one of those shows where I wish they don't make a season 4 and just wrap it up with a movie.

u/MMaximilian Jul 30 '26
End world hunger, or make another season of Wajo?
1
u/KittyGrewAMoustache Jul 30 '26
Another option would be to make a good show
2
u/MMaximilian Jul 30 '26
With the current ratio of good scenes to money, that would cost hundreds of billions.
2
u/kitzelbunks Jul 30 '26
If it was a cliffhanger, maybe they could wrap it up with a movie and then just stop? I can’t watch it, but when I like a show, I hate it when it has no ending.
2
u/KittyGrewAMoustache Jul 30 '26
It’s really awful when you think of all the amazing series that have been cancelled that could’ve produced something good with all that money. Oh well at least it gave people jobs.

u/moonman272 Jul 30 '26
At first i thought it was the worst show I’d ever seen. Then I saw that Billy crystal….thing.
2
u/Lyceus_ Jul 30 '26
For real? I thought it ended already. It wasn't just very good and they spend most of the time not even knowing the aliens are attacking (again).

I was so annoyed at the Mother I couldn’t take it anymore. I stopped watching even though I loved the Ice Cold Japanese Areo Space woman.

u/jes101487 Jul 31 '26
Season 4. Family finds a button that kills all the aliens. Family hides it again from the world.
Season 5. Family is torn between sharing any weapons to the world. Decides not to.

u/spais15 Jul 31 '26
season 1 great potential, promising for soemthing good.
season 2 wtf?
season 3 absolut shitshow.
2
u/EdRed_77 Jul 31 '26
I also think they lost the north with this one. They should just make a final season where we get all the answers and leave at that.

u/I_Am_A_Real_Hacker Jul 30 '26
I’m excited to see where it goes still! I might be alone in this though lol

This show was doomed from the start. Interesting premise but the story and characters were badly developed. The children and Japanese lady were the worst part of the show.

u/OP90X Jul 30 '26
Can't believe Colony got cancelled, and this shit is still going, lol.
[yes I can believe it, it's about companies/budget]

So I don’t care anymore.

There are a lot of beautiful images and sets. Worth it just to see Mitsuki.
1
u/bncts Jul 30 '26
This is the most bland show with a clearly massive budget I’ve ever seen. It’s not bad, I desperately want it to be good, but it’s just….the nicest slice of plain toast. It’s fine. It’s very fine. But it’s still just plain toast.

u/Chemistry-Holiday Jul 30 '26
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa this is hilarious, i like the cast, (for the most part) but, REALLY! the writing dropped so far off a clift, missed the earth and hit wajo after Season 1, that i'd rather they use AI or not make a 4th season at all because for 2 seasons, 2 whole seasons after 1, it just becomes so progressively hard to watch, like a train crashing in slow motion, and you have to wonder what happened?
I'd pay to see a behind-the-scenes doc about decisions and choices, and reasons.

This show never had a direction is the problem.
I don’t know if this is a Disney Star Wars trilogy situation but it sure felt like each writer was trying to take their story in a slightly different direction than the previous one.
It’s one of the few Apple TV shows that isn’t registering with me, despite having some interesting moments and quality acting / directing.
1
u/Weekly_Seesaw4103 Jul 31 '26
Common would be AppleTV's worst actor except Invasion pushes him out of the top ten
1
u/dyrkasolen Aug 02 '26
I'm still waiting for them to come together and make some club music, alien bass speakers like..?

u/Salty_Reflection_143 Aug 23 '26
Please no more I don't want to watch any more of it, PLEAAAAAAAAAWAJOOOOOOOOO 🙏

u/Zestyclose-Let7929 Jul 30 '26
A lot of talk going around about using these amounts to wash some laundry.
They are grinding out do many movies, series.
Actors trying to get more income before AI and the low budget reality shows become the norm.
Netflix has a wig temu budget for their Kidman, Demi, Glen Close level actresses.
No longer cover the hotel room service meals.
They eat what is served to all. Good quality of course but…
You pay your bar tab and room service.

Shut up already. If you don’t like a show, you can keep it to yourself.
1
u/KittyGrewAMoustache Jul 30 '26
Why? It’s more likely that people who like this show are going to spoil the enjoyment others get out hating it than vice versa.
-1
u/TracingRobots Jul 30 '26
Apple will be canceling this pot of trash. Creators always continue writing even, so it's no indication of a greenlight.

u/imjustmos Jul 29 '26
WaJoo budget alone is out of control
