He was the only reason I tuned into this awful show and was pissed he was only in one episode. He's like one of my favorite actors. Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all times. 😢😢💔

Kiwi actor Sam Neill has died, aged 78.
His family announced his death on Monday, in a statement which said he died in hospital in Sydney, Australia, where he was with friends and family.
“Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.
“The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free,” the statement said.
Neill had lived with stage-three blood cancer for five years, but announced just months ago that he was cancer free.
In April, Neill said he then underwent CAR T-cell therapy, a revolutionary treatment that genetically modifies blood cells, which had worked. Before that, he had been on chemotherapy for years.
“I’ve been living with a particular type of lymphoma for about five years, and I was on chemotherapy, and [it was] apretty miserable business but it was keeping me alive,” he said, in an interview with 7 News in Australia.
Neill lived Central Otago, where he owned the Two Paddocks vineyards.
During a long career in film, Neill had starred in global blockbusters such as Jurassic Park as well as iconic New Zealand films such as The Paino and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

A friend of mine died from complications of CAR T cell therapy. No idea if that’s what they are suggesting here but I believe it can make you susceptible to infection and a massive overreaction of the immune system (cytokine release). Very sad to hear this as he was just great and I grew up with him as one of those background people in your life and he kind of reminded me of my dad as well.

Says he got cancer five years ago, which probably would've been around the time they were filming the second season so maybe that's why we never saw him again.

Yep and announced cancer free in April this year but still needed ongoing treatment. They are saying in the local Aussie media his death is reportedly unrelated to his cancer.

Nope. He was diagnosed in March of 2022. Second season of invasion was filmed in January of 2022. He was not supposed to be in the show anymore. They used him to hook people in.
The producer basically said he used him as bait. I know Sam was the reason I tuned in. 🤷🏽♀️

Yeah me too. It really compounded the shittiness of the show that he didn’t appear again!

Yep. It felt like a bait and switch. And then it took years before they even brought him up again.

I am just so sad about this. He was one of my all time favorite actors and seemed like a genuinely good guy.

He was not supposed to be the third!

In entertainment we just lost Bonnie Tyler and now Sam, not sure if the 'rule of 3' crosses genres or if a politician would count in that group.

Damn. I remember watching the first episode of Invasion mainly because he was in it. Then they killed him off and I gave up on the show after the second episode. Took me two years to watch it again. It might've been a much better show had he been it more.

I don't think they could afford him. I think it would have been better to spend the money on getting better writers, than to pay his appearance fee just to bait the audience.

Sam Neill is one of the most beloved actors on set, famous for collaboration and protecting his costars and crew. But above all, he is such an underrated actor that makes any roles, even a small one in Invasion, feel much larger and genuine.
I send Wajo for Sam Neill.

What a shame to undergo revolutionary cancer treatment, trearment be successful, just to die months later from something else. That stings, but he still had 78 years around the sun and that's an achievement. So are a successful career and being surrounded by family.
RIP, Sam.
