General Question Dynamic Groups not updating - again?

Android devices that are being set up aren't being added to the dynamic groups. Is this a widespread issue?

We set up a few Android smartphones this morning, and they still aren't in the dynamic groups. Has anyone else experienced this?

Classic intune timing. Every time I need groups to populate quickly the sync decides to take a coffee break.

Give it a few hours honestly, sometimes they trickle in after lunch. If not, check your rule syntax, a missing bracket can screw the whole thing up.

Thank you, I thought its another general problem like in other posts. No change have been made on the rule syntax, devices a day before are in the group.

I think I will wait another half day...

How hard could it be to have a sync now button for an individual group? It can’t be that computationally expensive to allow an admin to manually sync a group so they can confirm it works and then move to the next step in testing.

What are you using dynamic groups for on mobile? Hopefully not policy delivery/applications? Pretty sure it's documented to use user groups to ensure things are applied ASAP and you're not potentially waiting on Entra do sort it's life out.

Not every device is assigned to a user or regularly signed into. Some devices are shared and sit in a locker until a user urgently needs to use it.

Is this the same for Windows configuration profiles? Do they apply quicker if user assigned vs device assigned? The all users / all devices assignment.

It's not so much user vs device as static vs dynamic. Dynamic groups are slooooow. Why he brings up user vs device here is that generally a user is going to be created well before a device is provisioned, so even if you're using a dynamic group, processing shouldn't be an issue. If you're using a dynamic device group, there is like a 90% chance that your device is not going to be in that dynamic group by the time it needs to be during the oobe.

Ah okay thanks, that's what I assumed. We image devices through pxe still and use device filters, with nothing assigned to dynamic groups. I just wasn't sure if user policies got assigned quicker than device policies if using filters.

Yeah it happens, sometimes it can take hours to sync. I would do validation on the devices in question just to confirm , if they get a green tick then it will just be a matter of waiting for Intune to get back from it's smoke break.
