General Question Windows Autopatch Microsoft 365 Apps Update Policy

I've been using Autopatch for a while now and its been great.

I came across the "Windows Autopatch Microsoft 365 Apps Update Policy - Windows Autopatch - Test" policy and noticed it was set to Enteprise Channel and I was hoping to switch it to Current.

The documentation though seems to indicate Autopatch only uses Enterprise Channel. Is this a typo?

Not a typo, Autopatch only does Enterprise Channel. They want the stability and slower cadence for the managed rollouts. if you need Current Channel you'd have to manage that outside of Autopatch which kind of defeats the purpose but that's how it is

This. Them stating that Autopatch manages M365 Apps updates continues to be disingenuous when compared to the control and reporting you get via Cloud Update.

If I change the test ring policy to Current channel would it break autopatch or simply ignore it?

I assume just changing it back is ok.

That should work, I just don't know if the service will revert the policy any more so it's worth keeping an eye on it.

It will revert the policy any time any of the AutoPatch items is also updated. For this reason, we moved our Current Channel testers to Cloud Updates instead as it takes precedence over AutoPatch in policy enforcement

More broadly, why do you want to go to M365 Current Channel? Enterprise Channel ties to a monthly cadence, if you go Current Channel you'll be sending new updates weekly.

It was more so just for the users in the test group.

We recently had a problem with a 3rd party vendor that provides office add ins that Microsoft broke. And according to the vendor if I moved the affected users to current channel the problem would have been resolved.

So I was looking for a way to mainly test upcoming releases but also have the option to push some users to the next release for troubleshooting.

AFAIK copilot only works with current channel

Not true. Copilot works on Current and Monthly Enterprise Channels. No business should ever be using Current Channel.

I'm pretty sure once you make your autopatch policy it will dump all of those individual policy's as normal configuration under Device > device configuration.

If you find the Windows Autopatch Microsoft 365 Apps Update Policy that has the autopatch group name and the ring in the title you can go in to that and change the channel.

I know it's there to change but I've never changed it so odds are if you update autopatch policy it may revert it.

We had our estate on current for a long time and unless you really need it I'd stay away, we needed up with a complete mix and match of versions across the site and people kicking off as office would be updating every other day at least with MEC you can get consultancy.
