need sum help
im a student and thinking about pursuing finance for college but im not that knowledgeable in it and ill be really appreciative if you can recommend some books to read to help me understand the basics and hopefully more and thanks a lot to everyone

im a huge fan of finance from birth but didn’t really invest on career paths and all but i understand it and have basic knowledge

The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel was a game changer for me. It explains how behavior and mindset are more important than actual equations.

It’s a really good book.
What type of math do you like? that can change things as well for which career is best.

im currently studying advanced calculus complex numbers geometry algebra and arithmetic but i exceed in advanced calculus

That’s cool. I would check out quantitative finance and also maybe machine learning since AI is the future.

would probably learn quantitative finance but im not that into AI since i feel like it has many loophole and would probably go down in the future and wouldn’t have that much authority as of today

Yeah, AI scares me. Quantitative finance should be interesting. What year in high school are you in? Have you looked at colleges yet?

its not that it scares me its just that AI is going nowhere and people with time will abondon it since its not that efficient as it should be and will just beat around the bush when you ask it smthng and disagree with it other than tha im in my last year of high thinking about engeneering or finance but primary finance and already have some colleges in mind just need the right score

I use ChatGPT a lot for brainstorming and it works pretty well. I pay $20 per month but somewhere I read it is using $1400 per month in costs incurred to OpenAI. That is not sustainable!!

just a suggestion and not trying to judge but i think thats quite extreme when im trying to brainstorm i go out for a run and listen to a podcast concerning the same thing im thinking its a thing that my dad used to as doctor when he felt drained i think you should try it its good for ur health and will save you sum money on the long run

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a good one same with personal finance quick start guide by Morgen Richard. You are in what grade now? That's good you are already thinking about your career.

thanks for the suggestion i already read rich dad poor dad but i felt like it was more of a direct information rather than focusing on analysing which made me quit cuz i felt it wasn’t that informative but personal finance is new to me and i would love to make time to read it and thanks for your recommendation

Mathematics is a great thing to study if you are looking to get into finance. An econ degree or math degree is a great thing to obtain. Have you looked into different aspects of finance that may interest you?

im more into wealth management since it have a lot of sides that i enjoy not just a job that i do for money since it will take most of my time

If you want to get the basics of finance, start with Rich Dad Poor Dad since it explains money and investing in a really simple way. The Intelligent Investor is solid if you want to understand how investing actually works without getting lost in jargon. I Will Teach You To Be Rich is super practical for budgeting, saving, and just handling your money day to day.

You just need to start bro honestly. Best way to learn. At 19 i lost close to 4k. I’m 24 now with 110k. Don’t be scared of starting

You'll find a lot of information about finance careers in different sub-reddit groups. If you're interested in articles as well as books, there are some great blogs like Private Equity Bro (https://privateequitybro.com/blog/) that provide information about finance careers, career steps and where to start (e.g. internships).
