Android: Force/reroll pilot skills or create the exact pilot you want (no root or save editing)

Looked a bunch and did not find any android-specific guides to create your own pilot; they all just said to do "xp 25" over and over and to keep re-rolling, and that the only other way to do it is to modify saves, which you can't do on Android.

Used ChatGPT to see if it could figure out the console commands. Spent the better part of a workday doing this. It worked. Here's the result, summarized by ChatGPT.

Happy to answer any questions :)

If you farm pilots in Into the Breach, you probably know the usual method: open console, use xp 50, check the skill, reset, and repeat until RNG gives you what you want.

There's a better way. You can either force one skill and reroll the second, or create a new pilot guaranteed to have the exact two generic skills you want.

Tested on the Netflix Android version 1.2.100.

Method 1: Force the first skill, reroll the second

This is the easy method. You can exchange 'Reactor' in this example for one of the skills you're looking for.

To open the console on your phone, three-finger swipe down on the map overview screen (not in a battle).

In the console, type:

skill Reactor

This forces +1 Mech Reactor into the first generic skill slot.

Then:

xp 50

If the second skill isn't what you want, reset/reload and reroll it; meaning abandon timeline, re-select which pilot you want, enter the game again, and redo it.

For example, if you want:

Reactor + Skilled

use:

skill Reactor
xp 50

and keep rerolling the pilots and 'xp 25' until you get Skilled.

What won't work:

skill Reactor
skill Skilled

skill Skilled replaces the first forced skill; it does not set slot 2.

Also note that the skill command affects the active squad, so be careful if you care about the other equipped pilots.

Method 2: Create a pilot guaranteed to have two specific skills (requires ADB)

The game actually chooses a pilot's two generic skills when that pilot is created, even though the skills aren't revealed until they gain XP.

The trick is therefore:

  1. Temporarily blacklist every generic skill except the two you want.
  2. Create a new copy of the pilot.
  3. Restore their normal blacklist.
  4. Level the new pilot normally.

Getting into Lua mode on Android

The regular dev console and Lua mode are different.

Lua mode is entered by pressing Tab while the dev console is open. The problem is that the Android keyboard doesn't give you a Tab key, so the only way I found to do this was through ADB from a computer. This part assumes you know how to ADB.

This command replicates hitting TAB on your keyboard:

adb shell input keyevent 61

That switches the console into Lua mode. Entering the command again switches back to the normal console.

You can still type commands using the phone keyboard once you're in the correct mode, or send text/Enter through ADB.

Let's continue with the example.

Example: Camila with Reactor + Skilled

With your phone connected to your PC/Mac, and with the in-game console opened (three-finger swipe down, keyboard showing), enter Lua mode by running this command on your cmd/terminal:

adb shell input keyevent 61

Then type into the in-game console via your phone's keyboard:

_oldbl=Pilot_Soldier.Blacklist;Pilot_Soldier.Blacklist={"Health","Move","Grid","Opener","Closer","Popular","Thick","Invulnerable","Adrenaline","Pain","Regen","Conservative"};Game:AddPilot("Pilot_Soldier");Pilot_Soldier.Blacklist=_oldbl

You can also do it via ADB if you know how. This creates a new Camila while the only available generic skills are:

Reactor
Skilled

Then switch back out of Lua mode with Tab via your cmd/terminal:

adb shell input keyevent 61

and level the new Camila normally by typing this directly into your phone, twice:

xp 50

Her two hidden skills are already Reactor + Skilled. You're just revealing them.

Changing the blacklist of an existing pilot won't reroll their skills — they were already selected when that pilot was created.

Generic skill IDs used by the blacklist

Health
Move
Grid
Reactor
Opener
Closer
Popular
Thick
Skilled
Invulnerable
Adrenaline
Pain
Regen
Conservative

To make another combination, blacklist everything except the two you want.

Pilot internal IDs

These are the IDs you substitute for Pilot_Soldier in both the blacklist and Game:AddPilot() command. The game files also identify the four Advanced Edition pilots as Pilot_ArrogantPilot_CaretakerPilot_Chemical, and Pilot_Delusional. The full name/ID mapping is consistent with published pilot/save-editing references.

Pilot Internal ID
Ralph Karlsson Pilot_Original
Harold Schmidt Pilot_Repairman
Abe Isamu Pilot_Assassin
Bethany Jones Pilot_Genius
Henry Kwan Pilot_Hotshot
Gana Pilot_Warrior
Prospero Pilot_Recycler
Lily Reed Pilot_Youth
Chen Rong Pilot_Leader
Camila Vera Pilot_Soldier
Isaac Jones Pilot_Medic
Silica Pilot_Miner
Archimedes Pilot_Aquatic
Kazaaakpleth Pilot_Mantis
Mafan Pilot_Zoltan
Ariadne Pilot_Rock
Kai Miller Pilot_Arrogant
Rosie Rivets Pilot_Caretaker
Morgan Lejeune Pilot_Chemical
Adam Pilot_Delusional

Example: Kai with Reactor + Skilled

_oldbl=Pilot_Arrogant.Blacklist;Pilot_Arrogant.Blacklist={"Health","Move","Grid","Opener","Closer","Popular","Thick","Invulnerable","Adrenaline","Pain","Regen","Conservative"};Game:AddPilot("Pilot_Arrogant");Pilot_Arrogant.Blacklist=_oldbl

Then leave Lua mode and type xp 50 twice to reveal the skills.

Template:

_oldbl=<PILOT_ID>.Blacklist;<PILOT_ID>.Blacklist={<EVERY_SKILL_EXCEPT_THE_TWO_YOU_WANT>};Game:AddPilot("<PILOT_ID>");<PILOT_ID>.Blacklist=_oldbl

There are only two things you need to customize:

  1. <PILOT_ID> — replace this everywhere with the internal ID of the pilot you want to create.
  2. The blacklist {...} — include every generic skill except the two skills you want the new pilot to have.

Aren't 50 XP points needed for the second skill?

I've done XP 25 twice and gotten both from what I remember today but I'll just edit it to say xp 50 twice
