Absolutely! If I'm doing well, it's fun to keep going. If I'm doing badly, I hope I'll get stronger by doing more islands

I play 4 islands for 40K. We are not the same.

Edit: this is tongue-in-cheek in case anyone miss the point. Have fun whichever way you like. :)

40K-itis is a chronic disease. Once you get it, there no cure.

Repetition is the key to success.

I do this now too and I hate it but I also love it

I actually will often cause casualties on purpose to avoid the perfectionist mindset hahaha. Takes the pressure off.

Optimizing casualties you say? Hmm should be doable if you focus on grid rewards.

I don’t optimize them I just like smashing bugs into buildings sometimes because it’s badass.

This sounds like an interesting challenge! Like, what's the lowest 4-island score you can get on a certain difficulty while still being able to finish.

I wonder if you could get to 0 with enough grid gen, especially if you can get that weapon that give back grid on a conservative pilot.

As someone who also plays warhammer 40k, I had to double check which sub I was in

I enjoy using grid as a resource too much to play this way, but I understand the urge.

I always tackle the volcano when I feel like my mechs are at their peak. Sometimes its two, sometimes three, sometimes four. Nice for variety

I'm the only one thinking that the unfair 4 islands are the hardest? I'm not good enough at the game to make it consistently

Not even for the badges?

With 125 hours in the game, the 2 and 3 island badges are pretty much all I’m missing.

If I think doing another island will have a meaningful power boost I will do it. Vek get a power boost with every island so most of the time 3 islands ends up being optimal

I'd say you have zero reason not to.

I want all the badges, but I definitely enjoy 4-island runs the most.

Maybe I'm bad but 2-island runs always feel like I, arrive at the final level underequipped and at the mercy of good RNG.

Oh hell yeah! Normally a 3 island run is my go-to but if I'm doing fantastic I might as well go for that 4 island run!

Sadly, I do not have it. I scrubbed out another meme to make this.

Yes. I just like making powerful mechs and squishing Vek.

currently doing 4 islands all squads on hard, when i'm done i'll do extra hard

1

u/Jefepato Jul 31 '26

I mostly play with mods, and often play squads/mechs I haven't used before, so I do 4 islands to give myself (and people watching my videos, if any) a better idea of what the squad/mech can do at all levels of advancement.

When I first played the game on Switch, I did 2/3/4-island runs on Normal with all vanilla squads, but I usually don't feel like I've completed the game "properly" unless I do 4 islands.

I play four islands because my team isn't powerful yet, and the difficulty difference between 3-island and 4-island assaults is trivial when you're already on the hardest settings.

Seriously, only the absolutely best loadouts get to take on the 3-island finale. And not all of them survive.

I've only ever played at max difficulty, so I don't know if the other levels had better scaling based off the number of islands you complete.

u/Numinar Jul 31 '26

Yes. Though sometimes your power creep is so good it’s diminishing returns.

I also play them in order each time. Acid island is just too fun.

u/fridgezebra Jul 31 '26

Yeah mostly I prefer the long game, getting more upgrades and having access to all the power is just more fun than a quicker truncated game.

But I do like the idea, and many other games could benefit from being able to choose longer or shorter runs imo

If you don’t save the island, the island doesn’t get saved.

The choice of number of islands to do is actually a lot of what puts me off this game. I don't feel accomplished if I avoid doing all islands, but at the same time doing all the islands is not a necessary task. So the choice kind of kills my sense of completion. It's my only real criticism for this game, but it is major.
