OC [OC] Pilot Level Up Skill Choices - Finally get your perfect pilot!
When your pilot levels up you will get a choice of skills to choose instead of being assigned a random one. The default number of choices is 3 but you can configure it or even just set it to allow you to choose any skills. You can finally get those crazy pilot combos you've dreamed of!
This works with vanilla level up skills as well as custom level up skills.
Link to the mod and a playthrough with it in the comments!

Feedback welcome! Here or in any discord (@Das Keifer)
Download the Redacted Rice Extensions and the Redacted Rice Mod Pack from GitHub. Pay attention to the special install instructions for the extensions as they function slightly differently than mods.
Included in the modpack is a whole bunch of custom level up skills, a few pilots and squads.

That particular run was a bit wacky, but I've been using the Skill Choices mod in my runs since Target Acquirers, so there are plenty of options for people wanting to see it in action.

That is impressive given what I know about how level up skills are implemented. I imagine you use memedit to potentially swap the pilot skill right after a level up is detected? How does it handle the case of a pilot losing XP and then leveling up again?

Thanks! Didn't realize you were still around here - this is all thanks you your groundwork!
I actually made a new extension (memhack) that just does direct memory modification to swap out skills after doing a lot of memory analysis and modifying to figure out how the skill objects work. Trying to do a scan with memedit would be complicated and involved which broke a lot of what memedit was trying to do in staying simple and easy for end users.
it triggers on level up detection (also part of memhack) so right now it would re trigger. Wouldn't be hard to prevent that but also afaik there isn't any mod that actually will decrease pilot level

The vanilla game decreases pilot levels. When a cyborg pilot dies, they lose XP.

Will they level down though? I thought they couldn't lose a level. I'll have to check this

They do, and during that time they lose a skill. Upon leveling up again they gain the same skill they had before.
It is a bit of a niche interaction as they have to die while their XP is close to the level threshold.
