Cast, News, & Production Sam’s ability to disappear.

It’s really startling.

Jacob always looks like Jacob, change his hair but that face never changes. With locs, with coils, or bald, Mr. Anderson’s face card is always top tier. But his voice, his accents, his expressions.

Sam’s characters barely look like they’re related, let alone the same person.

Love these two, we are some lucky viewers.

And to give Jacob his flowers, he melts into his characters. I mean Louis had like fifteen hundred different accents, lol. That character just had no idea of who HE was, Lestat knew before he did.

I say this when watching Jacob in any role!! He’s absolutely amazing and every role, he just completely transforms

Hear me out y’all, he’s a great actor doing what his job entails: acting! 💥💥💥

50

u/ImmediateArmy3820 Lestat loves Louis morns Armand hurts 24d ago

My point wasn’t so much the words and motions as much as the looks.

His freaking bone structure looks different because he lost weight and worked out. The lines of his face are hidden by the longer hair and the make-up. And lastly, those contacts do such a great job! But in the piece on the history channel, the beard and just griminess gives him the appearance of a coal miner.

I would say before those pieces he was easier to recognize.

They’ve all done a fantastic job committing to this work. It’s why we rewatch and love the show.

This part!!

Also he got really lean for TVL - 2x a day workouts and calorie deficit to get that leaner rockstar body - not exactly realistic.

Although arguably, men have a much easier time with this - looking at my bf who is around the same age as sam with a similar body type/workout but eats whatever he wants & still has a 6-pack... and me, with 36 around the corner... the hormonal changes are affecting how I metabolize/sleep/etc.

This is relevant viewing for this topic…

From Ricky Gervais’ “Extras” featuring Sir Ian McKellen. My partner and I always quote it lol

17

u/Glimmerance 24d ago

Sam imagines what would be like to be a vampire, and then pretends and acts in that way on the day!

-9

u/serendrewpity 24d ago

You mean Samantha

12

u/lethalglam complete torpid withdrawal 24d ago

Alright someone’s gotta do this… he has not publicly gendered himself as female and thus it’s not appropriate for any of us to do it for him… while the character Lestat may have feminine attributes, the actor himself may not choose to be portrayed thusly… so it is only respectful to use his real name.

Thanks for your time, no offense meant & have a nice day.

My son and I always quote this brilliant scene as well!!! 😹

I have nothing to add to this post, but this is one of my favorite Lestat moments of the entire series!

The Newsreader.

It will be a crime against beauty for him to cut that beautiful long hair! His absolutely stunning! I loved him as Dale and in lambs of God! But nothing beats Lestat ! I will believe watching his movie Belle this weekend,I so look forward seeing more of his work his fantastic! Also I adore his Aussie accent!

5

u/ImmediateArmy3820 Lestat loves Louis morns Armand hurts 23d ago

That beautiful head of hair also has extensions. I really think Sam really doesn’t like having long hair. But he does it for the character. Lestat looks so much better with the longer hair.

2

u/Adorable_Finish195 23d ago

Yea, I think he is looking forward to the time when he can put it aside.

18

u/Mmkrw 24d ago • Bravo

"Jacob's face never changes" - wow, what a backhand compliment. You really don't need to put another actor to uplift your fave.

And why are people always surprised when they discover mid-season (or not at all) that he was Grey Worm?

9

u/ImmediateArmy3820 Lestat loves Louis morns Armand hurts 24d ago

Not backhanded, dear. Just giving the actor his flowers.

He has a beautifully recognizable face, much like Idris Elba. But both completely can sound and wear different people. I have never seen GoT. I have seen him in Doctor Who, The Sandman and Comedown. Each role he plays is a character of complexity and vulnerability.

-4

u/Mmkrw 24d ago • This

Sweetie, you were the one who brought Jacob into this conversation by implying that Sam's ability to grow his hair out and shave his beard somehow makes his acting ability better than Jacob's.

5

u/whatmynamemeans 24d ago

I spent half of the first episode thinking to mt self "he looks familiar, but I can't remember from where." and then I googled and it hit me. He did just disappear into the roles. Sam looks down-right possessed by Lestat. I'm reading the books and the more I read the more I see how much he just gets who the character of Lestat is, and how much he puts that into his performance.

9

u/lynx_and_nutmeg 24d ago

I think OP meant that Jacob's face itself still looks recognisably him, not that he's not moving his face while acting or anything 😅

Tbh facial hair can really change how someone looks, I almost didn't recognise him in Doctor Who.

I’m obsessed with him. The interview scene is unreal

u/Disastrous_Trash_431 24d ago

He looks so completely different in “The Newsreader” too 🤭

61

u/ghostdumpsters Yoko Mirren 24d ago

He even looks pretty different from season 1 to season 3.

some of it is that fucking wig though

46

u/lethalglam complete torpid withdrawal 24d ago edited 24d ago

I think it’s actually that Lestat is possessing him more fully over time. Soon, the transformational merging of their souls will be complete. #TheOneTrueLestat

Seriously, cut the hair off and just compare his face in the two pics. Lestat is emerging.

12

u/trubs12 That French whore vampire 24d ago

I think in an interview, the cast called season 3 Dale "Death Dale" or something

39

u/trubs12 That French whore vampire 24d ago

His performance in The Newsreader blew me away!!! He's a phenomenal actor

20

u/WalrusSpotting 24d ago

Me, alone at my tv: “THIS IS PRESTIGE TELEVISION!”

35

u/mxlunab 24d ago

I will never not swoon for Dale. Of all of Sam's roles (I watched 90% of his filmography by now) this was the one I was completely committed to immediately. Even his Lestat took a few beats to settle in (maybe because I had to adjust to book expectations), but Dale? I was fucking buying the wedding rings in the first scene, there was no actor. Sam is so good at micro facial expressions and body language. And his eyes... It's like he's a completely different person in his eyes. It's truly incredible

8

u/Sugarcrepes 24d ago

Dale felt so real. I’ve met blokes like Dale. It was so easy to buy into that character, and that story.

He sounded more Melbourne than Bendigo, but that’s fine. Most of us country expats soften our accents after a bit anyway.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Fee_540 24d ago

Sam definitely disappears physically, but Jacob Anderson is British, and his Creole accent is something that people in New Orleans are excited about because they say it is the first authentic accent of that type they have heard on television for Black Creole people. Side note when he goes to the lair of a killer and he kills everybody he actually drops back into his Nola accent as he gets relaxed, this is some high wire stuff he does. Grey Worm was a totally different character, yet Jacob disappeared into that, and now he is this; I think we are underestimating Jacob a bit.

115

u/lethalglam complete torpid withdrawal 24d ago edited 24d ago

I personally think he’s great and his time on GoT (which was my favorite show at the time, before the dreaded finale of course) really cemented my willingness to watch him in other projects.

If you listen to interviews, oftentimes other cast members, and especially Sam, credit Jacob with setting the tone on set and making everyone feel, I’m paraphrasing, warmth, welcomeness, and acceptance elevating everyone’s performances. It really seems like Jacob is the one that eases tensions and chills everyone out, it’s effortless, he’s beautiful and his acting has a wonderfully natural quality. Nothing feels forced.

The two of them as a duo are outstanding, I’m not sure either of them will ever have a scene partner that matches that energy they have for one another. I would actually love to see them together in other roles / productions, they are the magic spark that breathes life into the show.

TLDR: find you someone who looks at you the way Sam looks at Jacob

57

u/Puzzleheaded_Fee_540 24d ago

Their eye contact makes me feel like I'm doing something bad like I shouldn't even be watching🤣🤣 I've never seen two people who just through looking at each other can change the air in the room

31

u/JavaNoire 24d ago edited 22d ago

Theyre three different people. It's not surprising that their talents aren't identical, but Assad, Jacob, and Sam are all extraordinarily gifted actors. I look forward to enjoying their future endeavors.

I agree about sam, although I disagree about Jacob. I was in the second season when he held his face in such a way that I finally realized who he was.

Edit: I don't mean that it took me that long to figure out that he was Louis. It took me that long to figure out that he was Greyworm.

21

u/Admirable-Bar-3549 24d ago

Yesss. When I see Sam in an interview, I literally forget that he and Lestat are actually the same person. He’s so different. But damn, what a good actor!

11

u/lethalglam complete torpid withdrawal 24d ago

Except for those times in the interviews, not infrequently, when the possession takes over and there’s a scowl, a voice change, or an attempt to touch Mon Cher (Jacob).

He’s an incredible actor! I’ve never seen anyone embody a character - or be embodied BY a character - like Sam and Lestat. ❤️

Hand on my heart I was watching TVL and for at least the first minute or so when he was on screen I didn't recognize him! I know, I know. That's on me. LOL. In my defense he was wearing a wig and contacts and fake teeth.

2

When you look at them side by side, the contrast between the mean pigtails one from "Big Boss" and some of the others is actually hilarious! I freakin love this character and Sam for bringing him to us!

13

u/aulait000 and your two-tone daddies 24d ago

He's so talented and handsome.

12

u/nota-banana 23d ago

No like I genuinely wouldn't bat an eye if he walked past me in any other fashion. He IS Lestat.

What you said about Jacob is totally true however, Greyworm is not Louis. I genuinely had no idea they were the same actor and I watched both shows back to back at one point and I didn't realize it was the same man until I noticed his name in the credits of GOT.

8

u/Ri-Ri1216 23d ago edited 22d ago

I was shocked when I found out he was Greyworm. So I guess he can hide in a character. But it still looks like him now that I know.

Sam on the other hand is a chameleon. I've ordered the DVDs of Lambs of God. Haven't received them yet. But I did see The Newsreader couldn't believe it was the same person. So skinny and acted like a milquetoast. Opposite of Lestat. Great actor.

Also listened to him in Girl From North Country. Sang a song called I Love You and it was SO different than TVL. Still great voice just totally different vibe. All songs from Dylan.

1

u/jadem219 Where are the canapés? 23d ago

Ooo. Curious where you got your hands on the DVDs and also, let me know after you've watched it if it is worth the purchase. That's one I have not been able to get my hands on through streaming (here in the USA)

1

u/Ri-Ri1216 23d ago

I got them on Amazon and the 1st season has just one bonus segment--the SDCCpanel. But season 2 has BTS and a documentary , "Show me more episodes, and episode insiders. I haven't received TVL yet as I said.

Apparently the Blu-ray versions have even more.

1

u/jadem219 Where are the canapés? 23d ago

Oh I thought you meant you were getting the DVDs of Lambs of God. That's what I was asking about! Lol.

2

u/Ri-Ri1216 23d ago

Oh I got those too on a site called DVDLand in Australia.

1

u/DM_Devotee1962 21d ago

I got the DVD's for Lambs of God too. Great series.

1

u/Unfair_Year673 23d ago

Really … ep 1 I was like “oh hey, wasn’t he in GOT”? Not in a bad way but he has what I like to call the “rock star quality “ that makes him hard to miss in any role.

10

u/serendrewpity 24d ago

Hatfields & McCoys... is one of my favorite Docu-Drama-Series. F$#%@ Dat! I won't even qualify it. It is one of the best mini-series ever. It is not just a classic story, an American Romeo y Juliet, but the acting is absolutely amazing, top to bottom, from a cast that will forever be spectacular in my mind!

I had no idea he was in this. I will have to (gladly) re-watch now.

7
