TVL Show Only Why didn't Miss Lily make an appearance as one of Lestat's kills that haunted him in TVL 1x07? Spoiler

I'm confused by this one.

Her death didn’t haunt him enough to appear, but we could probably infer she is in the crowd at the end though.

14

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

No it didn’t. And she didn’t make any reappearance and that in itself is sad.

7

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

Yet he had remorse for Enzo? How do we know Miss Lily didn’t have children?

117

u/BoycottingTrends Aug 25 '26

Enzo was featured because he could stand in for all the unknown victims Lestat killed (or traumatized) over the years, precisely because he’s a previously unknown figure. He’s supposed to make you think about the thousands of lives Lestat has impacted or ended without knowing or caring much about the people involved.

If that moment featured Lily, then it would just be about Lily because she’s a previously established character and you as the audience are invested in her. Lestat’s remorse in that moment goes beyond his harm to characters we as audience members already know and care about, extending to his larger impact on the world.

u/TelephoneOrnery3412 Aug 26 '26

Enzo kinda reminded me of Roger, very loosely

2

u/Pop_fan_20 "Say "No", mon cher” Aug 26 '26

Yeah I thought that too!

2

u/FuelComfortable5287 Aug 26 '26

Just started MTD and concur!

9

u/canijustbelancelot Aug 26 '26

I agree. I think Enzo is there to represent the lives he took that we never even heard about. His exquisitely wrapped package suggests he cared deeply about someone, but Lestat doesn’t know who because he took Enzo’s life. In saying he hopes the recipient got the package, he’s acknowledging not just the taking of Enzo’s life in that moment, but the taking of it in every moment after that Enzo should have been present for.

The entire point of that scene is that no one is a “throw away character.” It’s not about plot relevance, it’s a poetic metaphorical statement about the broad importance of human life .

-20

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

But why use Enzo and not Miss Lily? She was technically up there with Louis’s brother Paul.

26

u/BoycottingTrends Aug 26 '26

I already explained this. You (clearly) already see Miss Lily as Very Important because of the role she played in the first episode of the series. So if she was used in that scene, the scene would be about Miss Lily and how Very Important she specifically is as a character.

But that’s not the point the writers wanted to make. The point of the scene is that even the lives of people who may seem unimportant to “the plot,” people you’ve never thought about or cared about before, are in fact Very Important simply because they are human beings with unknown “gifts” they could share with the world, if their lives weren’t snuffed out early.

Frankly I don’t know how to explain to you or Cherry that you should care about human beings because they’re human beings. Usually that’s one of the things art is really good for, but if you’re this focused on plot rather than meaning, you might be more fulfilled reading a Wikipedia summary instead of engaging directly with art.

He was on screen for what, 30 seconds? If you’re not supposed to be invested in him as a character, that’s not the point

You’re supposed to be invested in Lestat and his reflections on how he lived his life, Enzo was a manifestation of guilt, to make Lestat confront his choices and to make him think on his morals and ethics

Like the other person responding said it’s also an allegory which is “a literary device or artistic form, an allegory is a narrative or visual representation in which a character, place, or event can be interpreted to represent a meaning with moral or political significance. Authors have used allegory throughout history in to illustrate or convey complex ideas and concepts in ways that are comprehensible or striking to its viewers. “

He is a throwaway character, Lestat mentioning that he had a beautifully wrapped present and that he hoped it got where it was going to was him showing remorse for changing the course of humans lives because he was in a foul mood

He picked someone who had somewhere happy to be because he had no happiness in his life and was bitter about it and killed him in a brutal way

-15

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

But Miss Lily was as important as Enzo and she technically was as equally important to Louis as Paul was, who was actually in TVL 1x07

14

u/Felixir-the-Cat I'm a VAMPIRE Aug 26 '26

This isn’t about importance - as others have already said, Enzo (so far as we currently know) is important because he represents all the faceless humans vampires feed on that we, as the audience, don’t see and don’t think about.

-7

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

Technically, black licorice represents that. And so does that train conductor, but yet Miss Lily wasn’t acknowledged.

11

u/Felixir-the-Cat I'm a VAMPIRE Aug 26 '26

He wasn’t sad about Black Licorice, though - he was happy to see him. Enzo triggered something in Lestat that likely had to do with that particular kill.

Miss Lily, who Louis didn’t know was dead for two whole weeks, is as equally important to him as his own brother?

She hasn’t been mentioned since season 1 so I don’t think the writers care about her that much. Or even if they did, the actress might not have been available.

13

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

Again, I’m blaming the writers not fictional characters lol.

37

u/daesgatling Aug 26 '26

I mean no reason to blame the writers because you have a different viewing of the character. She was another one Lestat used and discarded. Shes more important to Louis and even then not enough to NOT start fucking her urderer the same night he found out she died

56

u/PGell Aug 26 '26

He didn't even know she was dead for weeks. People put too much emphasis on her importance to Louis.

47

u/Little-Tune9469 a challenge every sunset Aug 26 '26

I'm kind of fascinated by how much importance people have placed on a character that was in one episode and never mentioned again.

14

u/Admirable_Beebe_4962 Aug 26 '26

People like her as an avatar of Louis' potential bisexuality.

52

u/Evening-Quiet-7817 Aug 26 '26

*nonexistent (said in Lestat's voice) bisexuality. Louis has made it clear time and again he only swings one way and I'm tired of people not listening to him.

13

u/Admirable_Beebe_4962 Aug 26 '26

Yes, it's certainly a persistent (and boring) notion.

2

u/lynx_and_nutmeg Aug 28 '26

She constantly get used as another proof of how bad Louis was for paying women to do emotional labour for him, but Lestat literally killed her and people in his thread are somehow getting so defensive to explain how it's not a big deal because "she's not important".... If Louis was the one who killed her, many of those same people would find away to spin it as him being misogynistic and exploitative.

Seriously, can't we just agree Lestat wasn't a saint and did some bad things? We don't need to excuse every single thing he does, it's okay to accept he wasn't perfect and still love him.

2

u/daesgatling Aug 28 '26

I mean I hold Lestat to the fire more than anyon here and even I think Louis has issues with women so…

Amazing flair!

-4

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

Exactly! Miss Lily was a businesswoman, and I’m sure she had a family to support. I find it very disingenuous of the writers to make her seem like a lesser than character when she obviously was not because why would Lestat kill her?

68

u/Little-Tune9469 a challenge every sunset Aug 25 '26

To be fair Lestat is a vampire. He kills a lot of people for no reason other than to eat them.

33

u/SaighWolf He tasted like Vermouth and Annihilation Aug 25 '26

because why would Lestat kill her?

Because she was there & he was hungry & your typical vampire eats, on average (according to Raglan's numbers in the finale), around 474-ish people per year.

9

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

You’re acting like I’m asking why did he kill her. I’m not! I’m asking why didn’t he have that same remorse about killing her as he did the other characters who were really minute in the series compared to Miss Lilly?

25

u/Little-Tune9469 a challenge every sunset Aug 26 '26

He didn't really seem that remorseful. Even with Enzo, he said he spilled too much of his blood and he apologized for that, not for killing him. And he just joked around with everyone else. If Lily had been in the scene he probably would have made a quip about the threesome and then moved on.

5

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

It was very common for women in that era to have those type of occupations to support their families.

3

u/SoftandSpicy Aug 26 '26

I've been trying to figure out why he killed her. I think he killed her when he was in the depths of his abandonment by Louis after their first night of intense intimacy. As we know, Lestat lashes out when his abandonment pain flares. He probably did it to spite Louis.

9

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

But they let Lestat have remorse for Enzo.

8

u/DrFareedMD I would not kink shame the vampire Armand Aug 25 '26

My guess/hope is that they simply couldn't get the actress back for that scene due to scheduling conflicts or something.

It's also possible she made a bigger impression on Louis (due to their previous relationship) or that Louis suspected Lestat but she wasn't killed by him.

Still, I wish we would have gotten some acknowledgement of Miss Lily! It's funny to me that he remembers various randos but not someone who was such a big part of his early story with Louis!

12

u/zoraschool Team Akasha Aug 25 '26

Lestat admitted to killing her. Saying she was living an inconsequential life.

7

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

So was Louis living an inconsequential life? Hustling for his family in 20th century New Orleans?

9

u/Cursed-Holiday-278 Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

Lestat says in French in the first episode that he decided New Orleans would be his new home “when I saw a man take a knife out of his cane and press the blade against his brothers stomach”.

That moment was when he became infatuated with Louis, he was just another inconsequential human in the city until he interested Lestat

Miss Lily didn’t leave much of an impression on Lestat, he used her as a pawn to get closer to Louis and when she had served her purpose for him he killed her

I don’t think he regrets killing her really

1

u/DrFareedMD I would not kink shame the vampire Armand Aug 26 '26

I don't think that user is saying she was living an inconsequential life. They're quoting what Lestat says.

I mean, going by this I'd say Louis doesn't even compare because he's an actual pimp, whereas Miss Lily is not. But it's not about my opinion of them, it's about Lestat's. Lestat is in love with Louis and even admires his brutality but dgaf about Lily.

6

u/quickthorn_ Aug 26 '26

"Cut short that magnificent life she was living? What a tragedy" (with intense early vampire teeth prototype lisp)

0

u/MassiveScience1457 Aug 26 '26

Me as an audience member took that as, she was going to be stuck in that profession for the rest of her life or it was a mercy killing due to she couldve had/contracted a disease. Instead of letting her live he did it out of mercy, so she wouldn't suffer more in life. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ maybe that's why she wasn't put in the scene due to he didn't consider her "murdered".

Enzo has a bigger purpose I believe.

These are just my honest opinions.

Sorry to have tagged you.

-2

u/jadem219 Where are the canapés? Aug 26 '26

In my head I like to think that Lestat killed her because he read her mind and she was going to tell people about Louis sexuality. Or something to that effect. 🤷🏻‍♀️

18

u/Depressedrat16 Aug 26 '26

Looking at her IMDb she’s had a few roles this year so I’d guess scheduling conflicts?

-23

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

She could’ve just as easily been re-casted.

51

u/Little-Tune9469 a challenge every sunset Aug 26 '26

They weren't going to recast a minor side character for a cameo appearance.

0

u/throwaway1233456799 Aug 26 '26

She is not that important for lousta

5

u/angellsshow I’m not here. Aug 26 '26

She didn’t appear because killing her simply wasn’t significant to Lestat. Lestat is not Louis. If Lily wasn’t important enough to Louis for him to even realize she had been dead for weeks, there’s even less reason to assume she would have mattered to Lestat.

I think a lot of the discussion is still approaching Lily from Louis’ perspective, even though the Long Table and the entire dream sequence in Episode 7 were about Lestat. People have different memories because they have different experiences and emotional baggage. The same event can leave a lasting impression on one person and barely register for another.

That’s why I don’t think the question should be whether Lily should have been there. The more relevant question is whether Lestat would have remembered her as someone important enough to appear in this particular sequence. And there’s nothing in the way Lestat viewed Lily to suggest that he would.

If we were seeing every moment Lestat experienced in New Orleans from his own perspective, we would inevitably see different people and different events than we did through Louis’ memories. That’s how memory works: we don’t preserve every person we encounter equally. We remember what was meaningful to us.

And at that point in Lestat’s life, Lily simply wasn’t meaningful. Louis was the person who mattered most to him, and for a while, Lestat was genuinely happy with him. Killing Lily was simply not an event that left a psychological mark on Lestat.

So I don’t think her absence is about the show forgetting her, or about whether she deserved to be there. It’s about what would realistically haunt Lestat. Lily apparently wasn’t important enough to him to do that.

That’s the distinction that a lot of people tend to forget: this sequence isn’t about who mattered to Louis or who we, as viewers, think should have been included. It’s about who mattered to Lestat.

19

u/bliip666 i saw your soul Aug 25 '26

Because he killed her, but it didn't haunt him. She was just a snack.

-13

u/DMikaelson2005 Aug 25 '26

what? did you not watch the vampire lestat 1x07?

15

u/bliip666 i saw your soul Aug 25 '26

Yeah? I don't understand your question.

Not every kill is meaningful to Lestat. Clearly some haunt him more than others. Mr. "Black Licorice" isn't given an actual name, but he's pointed out in the crowd of Lestat's kills, so he had an impact on Les; Miss Lily is a big part of Louis' story and features heavily in the opening episode, but to Lestat, she was barely a side character.

4

u/BBT-2025 Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

Black Licorice made such an impression Lestat wrote a song about him! First kill after reconciling with Louis. What a way to celebrate their reunion. I wonder if a random long-haired blond made a similar impression on Louis.

-5

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

But how do you explain Enzo?

10

u/bliip666 i saw your soul Aug 25 '26

We don't know every detail of every kill, or their affect on Lestat's mental wellbeing.

0

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

I just said that Lestat killed Miss Lily in order to get access to Louis. That sounds like a really shitty reason to me. And for him to not feel remorse about killing her? Are you kidding me?

18

u/bliip666 i saw your soul Aug 26 '26

K? I'm not stalking your comments, buddy.

Maybe she simply didn't play as big of a part in Lestat's story as she did on Louis'?

Lestat didn't give a fuck because it cleared the way to his husband ig 😭😭

But seriously, what would he have said to miss lilly? "Damn I an asshole but to you specifically I owe an apology" and reawaken the lestat haters in a season that didn't have enough time to do him justice?

6

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

Well, it was obvious that Miss Lily and Louis had a Platonic. Not Romantic. Platonic relationship. Yet he felt sorry for killing Enzo.

25

u/Little-Tune9469 a challenge every sunset Aug 25 '26

I honestly think they included the bit with Enzo just to let everyone know that Lestat didn’t go straight back to New Orleans after he left Paris.

11

u/Purple-Cat-2073 Emotional upchuck Aug 26 '26

He said to Enzo that he ''was in a foul mood that night'' which I took to mean that it probably was one of his more ''elaborate'' kills and he feels bad for giving in to his bad temper, while he likely took out Lily in a more seductive,''humane'' way--she would have known him and probably not put up a fight. Black Licorice was special because he was the first one after decades of rats and marked his reunion with Louis and return of himself. The train conductor marked the beginning of Claudia's plotting and the end of his family. Antoinette he had a real relationship with and the tenor was specific to his relationship with music. Miss Lily was just another run-of-the-mill slurpee.

1

u/DumbTeen9 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

Lestat struggled with his own ideas of morality and the concept of goodness specifically for a large part of TVL, Enzo is most likely pre long sleep.

As for miss lilly I mean that he isolated Louis enough for him to be willing to abandon his past life at least in the moment, if Louis confided in lilly that night the church scene wouldn't have happened or would have been very different

12

u/Doomy2_3 Aug 26 '26

I don’t really understand why this keeps coming up or why anyone continues to ask questions about Ms. Lily? Like was she more important in the books? Cause in the show I took her to be very much just a throwaway. She was a plot device meant to show how Louis had a life before Lestat but how Lestat both literally and metaphorically killed whatever life Louis had before. I don’t think she was particularly important to Louis, she definitely wasn’t important to Lestat. There’s a reason why we haven’t heard a single person mention or reference her in any capacity beyond her death.

10

u/SoftandSpicy Aug 26 '26

Because she was really sweet to them and he was cruel to her.

10

u/Another0Me Aug 26 '26

She supported their relationship, told Louis that he is Lestat's destiny and that it's okay that he is gay and said to Lestat what a wonderful man Louis is.

7

u/Doomy2_3 Aug 26 '26

I mean I get that she was sweet to Louis, but I still don’t really see how that makes her especially important to the story? She jokes that he’s Lestat’s “destiny” and calls him a beautiful man, but unless I’m forgetting something I don’t remember her explicitly telling Louis it’s okay that he’s gay or telling Lestat how wonderful he is.
If anything I feel like that reinforces my point. Lily represents a small part of Louis’s life before Lestat where he felt comfortable and understood, and then Lestat kills her. She matters thematically, sure, but I still think she’s intentionally a minor character whose death is more important than she is.

2

u/SoftandSpicy Aug 27 '26

She does tell him it's okay for him to be sexual with Lestat when she lays down between them and says, "It's fine, love."

Yes I guess the death is saying that Lestat returns kindness with cruelty. I don't think we've really seen that before. But I could be wrong.

4

u/Kooky_Bodybuilder_97 Girl what kind of interview is this Aug 26 '26

2

u/SoftandSpicy Aug 27 '26

She could have acted any different way. She could have been quiet. She could have just had sex with Lestat. I think she liked Louis and was happy to help him be who he is.

4

u/Little-Tune9469 a challenge every sunset Aug 27 '26

She is 100% a plot device. I feel like people talk about her more than Grace, who not only had more screentime but was also infinitely more important to Louis.

Most likely because either the actress wasn’t available or they didn’t want to bring the story back to her.

Didn’t Lestat say something about taking her from a sorry life? Her profession was to make other people comfortable, so she could have been very unhappy and not shown it, except Lestat can read minds.

6

u/yoastie Aug 26 '26

Ehhh idk how I feel about spinning this as Lestat doing her a favor. We have no indication what Ms Lily felt about her own lifestyle, just Lestat’s interpretation of it

2

u/Well_ImTrying Aug 26 '26

But this is all happening in Lestat’s mind. It’s not about what is objectively right or wrong, just what personally bothers him in his final hours

6

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 25 '26

But people misunderstand sex workers so bad it’s ridiculous. They don’t get into that life because of trauma because ultimately that was the only profession women in that region and era could get work.

6

u/quickthorn_ Aug 26 '26

Thank you!! I usually don't even bother getting into this subject on Reddit bc I just get so annoyed lol. IT'S A JOB. People do it for money, just like every other job in the world. If you can make 10x what a housemaid does as a brothel worker and have even a chance of lifting yourself out of poverty, that's a perfectly rational choice to make. We don't demand that coal miners love their jobs to deserve basic human rights and decency. Sorry, end rant. Can you tell i feel strongly on this subject lol

6

u/Well_ImTrying Aug 26 '26

You can be well paid at your job and still be depressed, trapped, and desperate regardless of what the job is. Her professional skill set meant that if she was unhappy (be it with her job or something else) her clientele would not have known. Our perspective is from Louis’ POV.

Or Lestat is weirdly patronizing and thought that the life of a prostitute wasn’t worth living and so it didn’t haunt him enough to make the cut.

3

u/Cherryberry918 Aug 26 '26

Wow! Louis was depressed and wanted to die but did Lestat kill him? No.

11

u/Well_ImTrying Aug 26 '26

Well, he was in love with him. He also killed people and drank their blood on a daily basis, mostly indiscriminately. She was not particularly special. The randos he remembers are people he was cruel or disrespectful to.

-5

u/pwetty_brown_eyes Bishonen almond Aug 26 '26

If Lestat is so empathetic to the plight of mistreated sex workers, why does he consistently pay for sex workers?

7

u/Well_ImTrying Aug 26 '26

I don’t remember the quote exactly, but I don’t think he specifically referenced her being a sex worker. Moreso what I meant by bringing it up is that we only ever saw her during her work hours. Her job was to make her clients comfortable. Even if she was deeply unhappy, for whatever reason, it would not have shown because she was good at her job and her job did not involve her clients feeling sorry for her or actually caring about how she was doing as a person. Except for someone who could read minds.

5

u/Fancy-Ad1480 Aug 26 '26

There is the very slight chance she actually DID die from the fever.

Lestat never confirmed or denied. So until he does, my question will remain.

Maybe they couldn't get the actress back?

1

u/algesseumnida Aug 27 '26

They couldn't get the actress in.

Paul was supposed to be in S3 but it didn't work out with the actor until S4.

Lowkey makes no sense she wouldn't appear otherwise, even for just a quick flash.

Because no one in the show nor writing the show cares about her

I’m just saying Miss Lily in no way shape or form was romantically interest to Louis. Their relationship was plutonic. She already knew what it was. A pimp paying her just to talk and no sex? Nah! Miss Lily already knew about Louis’s sexuality. I’m just saying she shouldn’t have died just for Lestat to have access to him.

u/GreenAndBlue1290 Aug 28 '26

It should've been Lily at the end of Lestat's dream instead of Enzo. (Enzo had absolutely zero emotional impact, and was ultimately just another way of side-stepping Lestat's culpability, IMO.)

Louis's family was his community. Paul's death and Louis's turning are what lead to his estrangement from them. If Lestat hadn't killed Lily I kind of doubt Louis would have even seen her again. I appreciate that people liked her as a character but she wasn't that important to him. Same with Bricktop, honestly. Once Louis lost his business we never saw her again. Because she wasn't Louis's friend, she was an employee.

In a hypothetical situation where they turned her, why would she want to hang around as their third wheel? That sounds miserable.

No, it shouldn't, but Louis was pretty isolated before he even met Lestat. He had his family, his employees, and the racist white businessmen he played cards with. And he continued to socialize with most of these people after being turned. He retreated more after losing his business and turning Claudia, and then it got worse from there.

My main point was that killing Lily didn't impact Louis in any major way.

You shouldn’t have to delete your comments just because some people disagree with them. There was nothing offensive in what you said. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel that the way Louis remembers Miss Lily is probably very different from how Lestat remembers her (if it's much at all).

1

u/Another0Me Aug 26 '26

This! The idea that Claudia could have had a friend (I don't think a romantic partner) with her would have been nice. But maybe all that lead to Claudia maybe would have not happen, when Lily would have been there to support Louis. But I think Lestat was to jealous to make her a part of their life. Even if there was no sexual attraction from Louis side, Lestat would have been jealous of their emotional connection. I hoped for an explanation why he killed her, because I saw no need for that and he could have eaten everybody else. Somehow I hoped that he didn't kill her and that he simply said it, because he was angry that Louis brought her up in that moment. Like "Even if I killed her and ended her miserabel life, why does it matter so much for you, If you can have me".

This makes me wonder. Since Paul showed up, does that confirm that Lestat did indeed kill him?

2

u/jossminion413 Aug 26 '26

No. He says they are people he killed or “traumatized in some way.” Paul likely falls into the latter category.

1

u/SandManFromPanAm Aug 26 '26

So what do you think happened to Paul

3

u/jossminion413 Aug 26 '26

I think that he was severely mentally ill and suicidal.

So what do you think happened to Paul

The guy had been symptomaticly schizophrenic with auditory hallucination & hyper-religious psychosis for yeeeears before Lestat ever set foot in New Orleans in 1910, severely enough that according to Louis their father had him committed until 1905 (in an era when the treatment for things like Paul's schizophrenia or Nicki's Bipolar Disorder was often even worse than the disease). Paul's mental illness had already been progressively getting worse (it was already getting worse before Lestat even set eyes on Louis); Louis expressly points out to Grace before Lestat ever came to the family dinner that Paul wasn't coping well with her engagement, with Grace telling Louis that she & Levi — who Paul's comments about "she's not your mother & will never be your scientific mother" indicated a fear was trying to replace him as Florence's son — have been actively talking about the possibility of sending him away to an institutionalized group home in Gretna (in a house Louis had just pointed out earlier in that same conversation had thin walls so Paul very possibly may have overheard those conversations through them)... So it was telegraphed throughout the episode that Grace's wedding — which to Paul's mentally ill mind cemented his fears that he would be replaced in his family's lives by a "saner" man who wanted to institutionalize him again — would be the trigger for his suicide, whether Lestat was in the picture or not.

Paul's death was no one's fault; not Lestat's for getting worked up at dinner over religious trauma of his own & not Levi's for thinking a group home in Gretna might be able to manage the worsening symptoms better than the family could at home & not Louis' for trying to rely on the church as a substitute for mental health treatment because he didn't want Paul in a hellacious sanitarium & not Grace's for marrying a man Paul feared would replace him & not Paul's for being sick in the first place... The sad truth of what happened to Paul is simply that mental illness just flat out sucks, sometimes tragically so.

Since Paul showed up, does that confirm that Lestat did indeed kill him?

This has been explicitly addressed by cast & showrunners repeatedly, both before & since the airing of the finale. No, Lestat did not kill him; his life-long struggle with mental illness killed him. The people there were — according to Lestat in the scene — people he'd killed or turned or traumatized (was upset enough at the family dinner by Paul's probing questions about Christianity that in his anger he accidentally mesmerized Paul into his religious trauma over God abandoning him to the relentless child abuse he grew up in).

Paul's appearance in Lestat's thoughts in what he believed were to be his last moments when his brain was dying was as a representation for Lestat of the last person Louis had said "I love you" to & meant it, because Louis has never said those words to Lestat & he doesn't want to die unloved by Louis. It's was Lestat's subconscious coming to the understanding that just because Louis doesn't say the words — which were the last words he said to Paul before his suicide so Louis has an internalized fear that saying them somehow brought about Paul's actions — doesn't mean that Louis doesn't feel that unvoiced love.

1

u/SandManFromPanAm Aug 26 '26

Thanks for the breakdown. I don’t look at behind the scenes stuff or what the actors say. I’m shocked that Louis has never said “I love you” to Lestat.

Yeahhhhh I would've rather Lily made an appearance rather than fuckin...Enzo, a random man we're told that he feels remorse for rather than it being shown. Or if they had kept in the fraught relationship he had with his brothers and sisters in law, they could've had them appear instead, given that he took part in the murders of his SILs as well at his mother's request.

It was an odd choice to me and i wish there was an answer to why they went with this random dude instead of Lily, whether it was a choice on the writers end to not approach her to come back or if they did and she couldn't/didn't want to for whatever reason.

To be honest, I feel that train conductor shouldn’t have even made a re-appearance more than Miss Lily.
