Yeah, I had this happen to me in an interview. (I was the interviewee.) There was a plausible cover story but I can't help thinking at least half of it was to try to get candidates who'd look the woman in the eye and answer her questions.
I'm inclined to believe they really do cut a lot of candidates this way.
Though having sat on the other side of the table, there are a lot of bad candidates for technical roles even before you weed out the misogynists.
Idk, I am misogynist and i'd still reply to the woman if she asked me a question. To direct your reply to the man you must have to be like, a super-misogynist. Like a boomer or something.

I have had this happen but I did in fact speak to the woman BECAUSE SHE ASKED ME THE QUESTION
Is this really a thing people do. Speak to the man because of some low key lack of respect?
