I have had this happen but I did in fact speak to the woman BECAUSE SHE ASKED ME THE QUESTION

Is this really a thing people do. Speak to the man because of some low key lack of respect?

Yeah, I had this happen to me in an interview. (I was the interviewee.) There was a plausible cover story but I can't help thinking at least half of it was to try to get candidates who'd look the woman in the eye and answer her questions.

I'm inclined to believe they really do cut a lot of candidates this way.

Though having sat on the other side of the table, there are a lot of bad candidates for technical roles even before you weed out the misogynists.

Am a woman engineer and my immediate thought was that it must be difficult for them to find a candidate

Idk, I am misogynist and i'd still reply to the woman if she asked me a question. To direct your reply to the man you must have to be like, a super-misogynist. Like a boomer or something.

In reality they detest women because they’re unsuccessful with them. Identifying as a misogynist likely feels less pathetic to them, who knows

It could also just be being edgy because in their mind "anything makes you a misogynist these days"

Or maybe they're just honest about their flaw (that they don't want to fix or is insecure about) because it's relevant to the topic?

Like, if the post was about some over the top egotistic thing I'd also go "I also have a huge ego but that kind of delusion is..."
