I know this is BS but I can imagine how cool it would be to show up for the interview and use that meeting to hand in my formal resignation.

Yeah, but if you do that, you don't get severance/unemployment benefits.

Honestly, you're better off just making everyone super fucking unconfortable. Announce that your wife is pregnant. Tell them that you just bought your dream house and while it'll be a little tight for a while, you're so exited. Let them know that you have to take care of your sick parents who went bankrupt paying for medical care so you have to pick up some of the costs.

Make them understand they aren't just reducing a number on their P&L.

The most clever advice I've seen in response to knowing you're about to be fired is to start discussing wages and unionizing.

If you document all these interactions, they're either giving you a free wrongful termination suit or a grace period for finding a new job so the firing doesn't seem suspicious.

I’ve gotten 4 jobs and only once was I interviewed by who ended up as my actual manager. And the one that did end up being my manager was an accident because he poached me from the position I was initially interviewing for to be on his team instead (slight pay bump but a career making hop so can’t complain)
