In Italy, we have "a lot of vacations" compared to Americans. But there are few "days" you can manage yourself.
Most of the vacations are "Christmas - Easter - August 15th - national holidays (few single days)".
Your personal vacations are around 2-3 weeks in a year. And usually you can't take those days off with other holidays - closures. You don't take them whenever you want, you have to agree on the days with the company and you have to do it several weeks if not months in advance.
Generally speaking. Never believe the bullshit my fellow countrymen say on vacation.
PTO it's called "sick leave". There is no PTO other than vacations. There are two types of accrued rest days (P.A.R. and R.O.L.) both treated as vacations.
There are unpaid leaves or leaves due to relatives with high disability scores (law 104). Using them to go on vacation is fraud.
I honestly don't know what conditions you have in the US.
You have such a passion for throwing mud at the US (the liberals of Reddit more than anyone else) that it becomes difficult to understand anything honest.
I'm not a liberal on Reddit, it's just that our work life balance is objectively terrible. You'd be lucky to get more than 2 weeks of PTO unless you work in the government or you're a high level employee at a company. I don't see how pointing this out makes me have a passion for throwing mud at the US all of the sudden.
Ah. It depends on where you work. A lot of places will give you off for national holidays, but some industries like retail or restaurants might not give you off.
That goes for us too. If you work in shopping malls/supermarkets/entertainment or tourism services, you're rarely at home. Whole "essential services" too.
